It was a horrible decision to have another narrator read in a monotone instead of having Artie read his own book. I find Artie very funny, mostly because of his tone of voice and comic timing. Both these things are rendered irrelevant of course. This sordid story is not entertaining or well-written, and not at all pleasant to listen to. I'm not interested in listening to a "scared straight" episode. His first book was funny. Get "Too Fat to Fish" instead and skip this one.
This book has a slow start--for the first couple of hours I thought it was rather tedious, but it becomes hugely exciting. Extremely up-to-date content, stuff that was in the news just a few years or even months ago. Utterly fascinating!
The narration is a little dry, but the story is very memorable. This short story is well worth purchasing!
The dry British sense of humour in this book, in a modern up-to-date context is a lot of fun!
It's written in the style of "Ready Player One", but the writing is far worse. I'm in the target audience (early middle-age computer geek growing up in the 80's), so I found it an entertaining guilty pleasure. The writer has a poor vocabulary though.
Much more than just a description of exciting battles. Very honest & very personal as well.
This isn't fine, subtle literature. It's action-packed, violent, gory--not at all nuanced. Like a summer blockbuster movie--fun, but totally non-memorable.
This is an extremely well written book. Although I haven't enjoyed some of Wil Wheaton's narration in other books, this one is absolutely perfect for him. No wonder that this book has become a classic for scifi geeks!
The only problem for me was that, as an avid Adam Carolla daily podcast listener, I'd heard 99.5% of the stories in this book several times. Though there was very little new, Adam's delivery is always entertaining.
Much better-than-average scifi writing. Fascinating premise in this series. Looking forward to reading the next one!
Almost unlistenable. The premise is interesting, and the take on it in a "South Park" episode was extremely amusing. This book is the opposite. The writing is bizarre and unfunny. Not recommended at all.
