As an adult I really enjoyed this adventure. It moved quickly and I didn't want to stop listening.
The characters are very charming. Images of Gregor, the "hard done by" but brave young boy, and Boots in her backpack with her diaper needing changing were really endearing.

Paul Boehmer was excellent as narrator. I loved his portrayal of the patriarch Vikus, the cunning laconic Ripred and the unforgettable cockroaches. I wanted to run around quoting "Be She the Princess, Be She".

A cautionary note though, it is possible that a child may have a bad experience listening to a story of giant bats, spiders and cockroaches. Giant evil spiders may not be everyones remedy to good dreams.

I loved this audio book. It was a perfect example in the tradition of Sherlock Holmes. Certain facts of the Ripper killings were blended seamlessly in a Sherlock Holmes style novel.
Simon Vance as narrator was superb. He sounded like Sherlock, and like Dr. Watson and didn't do bad women's voices. Great regional accents.
You won't regret listening to this...you will think you are listening to Sherlock and Dr. Watson in person.

When I started listening to this book, I felt the tone so dreary and monotone that I wondered how long I would last. But I became totally absorbed with Agnes and her view of the world in early 18th century. It is a beautiful story that exists in a dark and gloomy world. I have loved the experience.
