This was a difficult listen initially. There were three stories going on at the same time. But the quality of the performance was extrordinary so I kept listening. Once the three stories started coming together, I was hooked. The story line was extraordinary, especially since the beginning of the book gave no clue as to the true nature of ... (better stop at that so as not to give away the story line). ;-) By the end of the book, I was disappointed to leave the three characters. My recommendation - work your way through the beginning. You'll be glad you did.

The performance was outstanding! Davis handled the various voices and the French sections seamlessly. His voice disappeared into the background as the story progressed. I effortlessly got lost in the story, easily telling one character from the next.

This is the first Davis performance for me. But I will check out his other performances.

I was just very sad to say goodby to the characters when the book was over. I cried at one point but to say where would give away too much of the story.

I would rank this as one of the best books I've listened to.

The story kept my interest. The characters were well developed. The setting was very real. This story took me back to the time period, letting me see the details of the dresses, the smells and sounds of the streets ... every detail. I could close my eyes and truly see what the author was describing.

I got to know the characters intimately ... their feelings & emotions ... their suffering ... their ability to keep going despite the odds. I grew to respect Eugenie and a couple of the other characters.

Kate's French was flawless. The voice for each character was different. I was immediatley able to regognize who was speaking.

Listen to this book. It is educational and entertaining, all at the same time.

The female character was very immature. I kept listening to see if it would get better but gave up about a third of the way thru.

The book is a best seller. A lot of readers/listeners seemed to enjoy it. But the lead female character was just not interesting to me.

Paterson is Paterson. He is pumping out book after book ... nothing earth shattering but entertaining, light reads. This series is getting to be some what predictable. Not wonderful but I feel I know the characters by this time and want to keep up with what is happening to them.

This book tells several stories, weaving them together into a wonderful tapestry. It's fiction. Or is it? The story line makes a lot of sense. It will make you think and question what you were taught as a child. Read "The Excected One" first, if you can. It will add good background to help in the understanding of "The Book of Love."

Rarely do I rate a book a five. But this one deserves it. Good character development ... lots of twists in the story line. I was sorry to get to the end. I got so involved in the characters, I find I want to know more details about how they got past all the tradegy.

Baldacci does not disappoint with this story. The plot is intricate, the characters are well developed and the ending had wonderful twists. Throughout the story, I kept having the feeling that something was not as it seemed but could not put my finger on exactly what it was. As I rushed to keep listening, I was sad to know the story was coming to an end.

Patterson tends to write stories with complicated story lines. He allows you to truly get to know the characters, giving you background material and information that, at the time of reading, may not seem relevant. But then everything starts coming together and you find yourself in a book you cannot put down.

This book was worth the work at the front end. I rarely give a 5-star rating but this book deserves it. You will find yourself longer on the tread mill or sitting in your car in the driveway, wanting to hear more of the story.

This book is being made into a movie and the trailer intrigued me. The book was not available on Audible yet, so I went to the book store and purchased the text version.

I could not read it. The author is known for his long sentences and paragraphs. Wikipedia warned me that the author does not give any of the characters names. It was too difficult to read the text. I wondered how in the world did this author ever win the Pulitzer Prize for literature.

Then, I saw the Audible version was available. I listened to a sample. The narrator made up for the author's idiosyncrasies. I purchased the book and could not stop listening. What a story! Rarely has a book taken me so deeply into the psychology of human nature ... why they do what they do ... how the mind works. I felt I knew some of these characters better than I knew members of my family. I recommended this book to a teacher/friend for her Advanced Placement English class.

Read this book. It's worth it. I hope Audible makes the sequel available.

I've read all of this author's books and enjoyed this one a lot. The ending was surprising but good. The whole book left me wishing events like this could really happen.

Good detail ... good character development ... good human interest sub story lines. This one had me sitting in the drive way, listening to "just a little more" before turning the key and getting out of the car.
