I picked up the first of this series on a lark- it was on sale and was rated highly.
Little did I suspect just how addictive these novels would be- or how many times I'd be laughing out loud ir tempted to yell "Hell yeah!".

Now my only gripe is that I've just listened to the new book and need to wait for the next installment...and I suck at waiting.

For a great giant monster/ sci-fi/ action adventure, this has my highest recommendation!

One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?

After 40 years in San Quentin, Luke Palmer leaves with a state-issued suit, $100 dollars to buy a bus ticket, and a map that will lead to a promise and into the heart of a dark forest. College graduate student Molly Monroe is about to release rare butterflies not far from where the FBI used 4,000 bullets in a shootout to kill Ma Barker and one of her gangster sons in 1935. Molly snaps a picture that will frame something she never sees coming.

Would you try another book from Tom Lowe and/or Michael David Axtell?

Nope. I bought this on sale for $3.99, Heard it on a roadtrip with friends and we had fun laughing at the sheer awfulness of the story. The narrarator does his best, but there's only so much he can do with what he's reading.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Anything but another Tom Lowe novel!

Which character – as performed by Michael David Axtell – was your favorite?

None! The entire story is like every cliche 1980's detective TV show cliche rolled into one- like something from the Steven J. Cannell mail-order school of hack stories.

It's NOT Michael David Axtell's fault though- he's really good, but all the frosting in the world won't make a turd into cake. I'd buy another performance from him- but not this author!

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It was good for an unintended laugh.

    Any additional comments?

Dont waste a credit on this one.

  • Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde: In Aid of the Royal Theatrical Fund

Here is a collection of the Oscar Wilde's famous fairy tales, read by a cast of leading British actors. Additional narrators include Geoffrey Palmer O.B.E., Sir Donald Sinden, and Elaine Stritch. Music: 'Reverie De Sebastian' by Steve Davies.

Would you listen to Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde again? Why?

This collection was great- while there were some stories that I considered skipping, as I was not a fan in print, the performances made each story worthwhile. A slight drawback is that the collection does not give the name of the performer with the title of each story- I would love to give each actor praise where it's due, but I only recognize the voice of Dame Judi Dench- and it is to her performances that I am writing to praise specificly.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde?

Judi Dench's performance in The Nightingale and the Rose and, more importantly, The Young King is almost impossible for me to critique- I can find no flaws in her performance and her voice is moving and heartfelt. The Young King though...that's a story I had never read and to hear Ms. Dench perform it moved me utterly.
Her depiction of the characters Death and Avarice is both chilling and enthralling- worth every penny of the purchase price for this performace alone.
This is a collection that should be shared with select friends, or listened to alone and kept near and dear.
