Charley Memminger combines a cast of quirky and sometimes dangerous island characters with a mystery that you'll never forget. This riveting story introduces Stryker McBride, who lives on a 300,000 dollar houseboat at a small yacht club. The former crime reporter has been keeping a low profile since being shot by a cop while investigating police corruption. But when Stryker receives a phone call from a beautiful former high school classmate, he's drawn back into society to look into the death of the woman's grandfather.

What made the experience of listening to Aloha, Lady Blue the most enjoyable?

As a Hawaii resident, I loved all the local place references. Mr. Chamberlain had trouble with the pronounciation of the Hawaiian names, which is nothing new .
The book could have used a little editing to avoid repetition, but it turnded into a pretty good mystery.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

    The ending was rather lame.

    Any additional comments?

Mediocre narration. It was constantly a challenge to figure out who was talking.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Mr. Petkoff has to be the best narrator in the business. He does full justice to MacDonald's rich characterizations in a lively, if somewhat bloody, adventure.

He's a self-described beach bum who won his houseboat in a card game. He's also a knight errant who's wary of credit cards, retirement benefits, political parties, mortgages, and television. He only works when his cash runs out, and his rule is simple: he'll help you find whatever was taken from you, as long as he can keep half.

What did you love best about The Deep Blue Good-By?

Terriffic characterizations, even for the minor players. They come alive! Even though this was written in 1964, it's not the least bit dated.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Louise, because she recovers her self resepect despite the abuse of her former lover.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Thrilling hand-to-hand combat in the dark on a boat in the middle of the ocean.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

When a woman needs a hero!

    Any additional comments?

I hope they record every one of the Travis McGee books.
