First I did not realize this was a book about vampires. The female voice is very annoying. I thought this audio would never end and only made myself finish because I had bought it. I think I would have put a hardcover down to finish "later" and later would never come. I definitely would not get this book again.
I read the Secret Life of Bees and The Mermaids Chair. I enjoyed both and looked forward to listening to this newest book. I grew up in Alabama and went to college in South Carolina so I am southern to the bone. I have never heard such a poorly faked accent. It was just excruciating. In the author's note at the end of the book she stated that she had lived in Charleston for 10 years. I cannot imagine she chose this narrator after listening to Charlestonians for that length of time. Just buy the book and enjoy the story without the distraction of that jarring faked southern accent.
Nothing. The characters were so dispicable that I did not even care what happened to them. I only completed the listen because I have to finish things. I was hoping to find myself thinking, Oh I am glad that I finished this. It was worth it. I was disgusted. The metaphors were so trite and the conversations so contrived.
A Kate Morton book, probably The Distant Hours.
