    So many have tried to make Kerouac novels into audio books and failed.
    This guy pulls it off. Very well.
    He's got just the right accent and delivery.

    He does NOT sound old on these recordings. He sounds like he's always sounded. On the mp3 quality downloads he sounds just fine. Upgrade your downloads if he sounds strange. This stuff is hilarious. Don't miss it.

    Somebody on here said he sounded old. No, he sounded like he's always sounded -- nervous and a little nerdy. I could not detect any oldness in his voice in these recordings.

    What was clear to me in his voice was his usual strange sense of humor. These are great recordings. If he sounds old, I suggest you upgrade your download quality from AM radio to mp3 or higher. Everybody sounds old on AM radio.

    This is great stuff. Get this and lighten up for a while.

    Mel Foster has a very good understanding of Walt Whitman's poetry. He must have read a lot of it before he did this recording. He probably loved Whitman's poetry before he got this job.

    I for one am sick of "way back then" styles of reading poetry. It wasn't "back then" when it was written. It should be read by someone who thinks of it as immediate and meaningful. Especially Walt Whitman's poetry.

    I'm baffled as to what some people were expecting.
