This was a little hard to follow at first because of the accents. After a bit it did become easier and I liked the story. It was sad, and it did portray things in what I imagine to be a realistic way. But this is not a feel good story.

    >When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

great narration. The story is full of kindness and compassion for the animals and their people. I learned a lot about elephants and some other species. The respect the author has for nature is immense and that is awe inspiring. Loved it

The author read the book which I thought might be interesting, but I became preoccupied with the constant sniffing and breathing I kept hearing. It was so distracting! The story is classic I suppose. I listened to it because my daughter was reading it in school. I'm sorry I watsted a credit on this.

I read this years ago and loved it Now my daughter is reading it in school so I decided to take a listen. I am so glad I did. As a "real" adult with daughters this adds a different perspective with much more depth. I enjoyed this all over again, for some of the same reasons, and some new ones.

This is a fabulous mix of history and drama. My daughter rows for her school and it gave me a much better understanding of what is required of her. This is perhaps the epitome of a team sport. The metaphor for life is not missed here either. Once I finished listening I bought it for her and she is 1/2 done and she can't put it down. She's 12 and it's completely appropriate and should be required for young athletes.

Balram Halwai is a complicated man. Servant. Philosopher. Entrepreneur. Murderer. Balram tells us the terrible and transfixing story of how he came to be a success in life - having nothing but his own wits to help him along. Through Balram's eyes, we see India as we've never seen it before: the cockroaches and the call centers, the prostitutes and the worshippers, the water buffalo and, trapped in so many kinds of cages that escape is (almost) impossible, the white tiger.

With a charisma as undeniable as it is unexpected, Balram teaches us that religion doesn't create morality and money doesn't solve every problem.

In 1994, Driven to Distraction sparked a revolution in our understanding of attention deficit disorder. Now a second revolution is under way in the approach to ADD, and the news is great. Drug therapies, our understanding of the role of diet and exercise, even the way we define the disorder, all are changing radically. And doctors are realizing that millions of adults suffer from this condition, though the vast majority of them remain undiagnosed and untreated.
