This was a little hard to follow at first because of the accents. After a bit it did become easier and I liked the story. It was sad, and it did portray things in what I imagine to be a realistic way. But this is not a feel good story.
The performance is outstanding. Just outstanding. The story is really fun to listen to because it brings back memories of The Shining I didn't know I had. I read that book as a young girl and it had a big impact. So, this was really great.
The narration was really too much. I laughed out loud at some points for how overly dramatic it was. There were so many inconsistencies in this book. I felt that the writing was dull and predictable. But the narration was what really sent me over the edge.
Maybe this genre just insn't my thing. But this one I could NOT get into at all. I didn't care about the characters in the least.
I finished this, but it wasn't easy. The performance of this story was really hard to endure.
I listened to this because my 10th grader had it on her summer reading list. It was fantastic! We both loved it and it was fun to talk about it together from our 2 perspectives in time/age. Stephen King is really good a tying everything together in the most unpredictable ways. I sometimes forget how talented he is and I intend to consider more of his work for my "listens". You won't regret listening to this one.
great narration. The story is full of kindness and compassion for the animals and their people. I learned a lot about elephants and some other species. The respect the author has for nature is immense and that is awe inspiring. Loved it
The author read the book which I thought might be interesting, but I became preoccupied with the constant sniffing and breathing I kept hearing. It was so distracting! The story is classic I suppose. I listened to it because my daughter was reading it in school. I'm sorry I watsted a credit on this.
I read this years ago and loved it Now my daughter is reading it in school so I decided to take a listen. I am so glad I did. As a "real" adult with daughters this adds a different perspective with much more depth. I enjoyed this all over again, for some of the same reasons, and some new ones.
Great twist. The language is descriptive, but now flowery. I loved it. Even when I knew it was coming to an end I just couldnt wait! Get this book!!
This is a fabulous mix of history and drama. My daughter rows for her school and it gave me a much better understanding of what is required of her. This is perhaps the epitome of a team sport. The metaphor for life is not missed here either. Once I finished listening I bought it for her and she is 1/2 done and she can't put it down. She's 12 and it's completely appropriate and should be required for young athletes.
