Ever since an accident turned her into a knockout vamp, Elvi Black's been catching her z's in a coffin, staying out of the sun, and giving up garlic. She knows there's more to being undead than what she saw in Dracula, but she can't very well ask her mortal friends about proper biting etiquette. But when her neighbors placed a personal ad for her in the local paper, she never imagined she'd meet Victor Argeneau, a vampire who could have his pick of any woman - dead or alive.

They forgot to put in the last chapter. I'm serious. Chapter twenty-one of the book was left out. It cuts off after chapter twenty and leaves the wrap-up 'un-wrapped'. I had to go to my copy of the book and flip to the back to finish the story because it's not part of the audio book I just bought. (The rest of the book was great but it p!$$ed me off to not get the ending of the book.)

For generations, the descendants of the powerful telepath known as the Rowan have used their various talents to help mankind. They have led Earth to ally itself with the alien Mrdini, and together the two races have held back the predatory Hivers, a deadly insectoid species that kills all life it finds. But like all powerful families, the Rowan clan has also made enemies.

As always Anne McCaffry writes a good story. This book is the fifth in the series and as a paperback is enjoyable. Unfortunately they switched readers for this last book. If you have listened to all of the other books, which have the same reader, and then start this one??? It???s like jumping into a new series, it seams completely divorced from what has come before. Susan Ericksen is a fine reader for OTHER books but her style drastically differs from the rest of the books in this run and breaks this last book away from the end of the series. In short: Switched narrator. Oops!
