Daisy Minor is bored. Worse than that, she's boring. A plain, small-town librarian, she's got a wardrobe as sexy as a dictionary and hasn't been on a date in years. She's never even had a lukewarm love affair, let alone a hot one. So when she wakes up on her 34th birthday and wonders how it is that she still lives with her widowed mom and spinster aunt while her friends have all gotten married and started families, she decides it's time to get a life - and a sex life.

Words are like a road map to reporter Camille Preaker's troubled past. Fresh from a brief stay at a psychiatric hospital, Camille's first assignment from the second-rate daily paper where she works brings her reluctantly back to her hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls.

    Story

plot: reporter CAMILLE has come home to write an article about the deaths of young girls. But Camille has some problems she has to over come like her own mental issues.

Camille Preaker has spent time in a psychiatric hospital for her hidden secret...under her clothes lies the "self mutilation" she has done most of her life. She has been a "cutter" a person who "cuts" themselves. Camille's body is a road map of WORDS all over her body. This writer job is the first step in a 'recovery' for Camille who comes back to her home town to write an article about a "series of child murders."
We soon encounter the town Queen ...Camille's mother. Clearly there is no love between this bizarre mother who loves everyone BUT her own children. Camille finds clues from the gossipy town bitty to the town religious nuts.....Gillian Flynn is the Queen of "flawed" characters. She gives us every single 'odd behavior' we can imagine and adds an excellent who done it and why. Camille is very bizarre. We are often repelled and yet fascinated by her. She clearly has lead a very miserable life and continues to deal with her own very bad choices. Having a very creepy mother and an even more dominating little sister.....Camille's own life becomes part of the plot. This is full of very small town flavor and the pathetic and weird mother/daughter relationship is very depressing. JUST what we except from Gillian Flynn. I would have never thought I enjoy this type of book but I was glued to the entire story. VERY good mystery full of odd twists. The lack of likeable characters are what drives most Flynn novels but her excellent "blend" of flaws and mystery..is first rate. 4 out of 5 stars and excellent reader. Also try Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.

Libby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in "The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas". As her family lay dying, little Libby fled their tiny farmhouse into the freezing January snow. She lost some fingers and toes, but she survived, and famously testified that her 15-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, Ben sits in prison, and troubled Libby lives off the dregs of a trust created by well-wishers who've long forgotten her.

    Story

PLOT: 7 year old survives the satanic killing of most of her family at the hands of her brother. But there is more to the mystery of the deaths.

Libby Day is an adult who has blown her way through a HUGE trust fund set up for her as a child who survived a 'satanic murder' of most of her family. The MASS murder IS her older brother Ben who is now a "lifer" in prison. He was mostly convicted by the child memories of Libby. Getting a "real job" is not in Libby's plans..... Libby has become a "cult" icon for an odd group of "serial killer groupies" who hire the down and so very out of CASH Libby to come relive the "murders". Libby is a very UNLIKABLE heroine who like most FLYNN characters is very flawed but keep you interested at the MYSTERY of what really 'did' happen all those years ago. When Libby meets her brother face to face she is now drawn to find out more of the "family secrets". Gillian Flynn is the master of the flawed. She gives us every BAD quality of someone we should dislike and we end up seeing why they became this way as part of the plot. The plot "gives" us the details of the actual family who are so "white trash" and pathetic but each has a secret. AS Libby finds that more than ONE crime was actually committed the night of the mass SATANIC murders of her entire family. Libby is now the TARGET of one of the "real" killers........ The chase through the woods is first rate FLYNN who weaves the flaws and mystery into a excellent plot. DARK, depressing like all the novels by Flynn who is an "acquired" taste. But the master touch of the mystery is excellent. This is my second Flynn audio and I was not disappointed. 5 STAR plot, mystery and audio readers. Also try Gone Girl .....by Gillian Flynn.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

PLOT: DIRTY depressing funny......thriller 5 STAR all the way.

you have to acquire a taste for Gillian Flynn. She takes depressing and warped and makes it funny and entertaining and toss in an excellent mystery and you are addicted. Nick and Amy Dunne are celebrating a 5th Anniversary when Amy "disappears" and all clues point to a killing and missing body. AS the "perfect marriage" unwinds bit by bit we see it is anything but a "happy" one. ** SPOILER HERE DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW MORE OF THE PLOT** Nick is not the "good husband" everyone thinks he is. The huge cash advances on the credit cards, phone records show a "mystery lover"....blood DNA from Amy has everyone looking in Nick's direction....But Amy is not the "dream wife" ...she has decided Nick has to 'pay' for cheating on her and falling OUT of love with her. Amy clearly has 'major mental issues' but is both methodical enough to come up with a clever PLAN and carry it out. This is excellent. Every character is flawed. it is simply a matter of how the flaws become part of the plot. DEPRESSING yes but the fascination characters and twists keep us glued. 5 STARS all the way. The READERS all are excellent...truly the BEST audible has to offer......and I am off to dowload the next Gillian Flynn audiobook.

PLOT: Rapist killer Bruno Frye is DEAD but why is he still stalking Hilary?

Hilary Thomas a screen writer finds a man in her house. He is calling her 'Catherine' and intends to kill her. Hilary fends him off with a gun. When the police a arrive ONLY one detective believes her story. Bruno has a very good alibi he is at home 6 hours away from the scene of the crime. When Bruno 'returns' to take another attempt to kill only the luck is with Hilary who has a knife and kills Bruno. Bruno WAS a respected winery owner and did WHY he think Hilary was Catherine? When Bruno shows up yet again Hilary has even the detective Tony who is clearly on her side wonder what is going on. AS Hilary and Tony look into Bruno's background the threads of information form a very disturbing picture of how UNSTABLE Bruno was. The bank records lead Tony and Hilary to a satanic bookseller and a former "MADAM" of a brothel who help fit the pieces of a puzzle of what made the monster of Bruno Frye. This is a long book but holds the interests. VERY morbid but then this is Koontz who has the masters touch in weaving a tale of horror and mystery. This is very early works of Koontz and it shows in the plot but the thrills are there from page one. I give it 4 STARS for excellent reader who gives this story all the thrills we can handle.

John Mosier presents a revisionist retelling of the war on the Eastern Front. The conventional wisdom is that Hitler was mad to think he could defeat the USSR, because of its vast size and population, and that the Battle of Stalingrad marked the turning point of the war. Neither statement is accurate, says Mosier; Hitler came very close to winning outright.

PLOT: BREAKDOWN of the battles on the EASTERN front of World War 2.

This gives us very "detailed" breakdown of the Battles on the EASTERN FRONT in WW2 including "numbers" of soldiers, weapons and ideology. You really "have" to be interested in this battle area to listen to the whole thing. I like the details but this is very long and even at times tedious. But the interesting DECEIT of the actual breakdown and how very well both Stalin and Hitler "manipulated" the actual numbers of soldiers and weapons for propaganda purposes. And the Mindset of both Hitler and Stalin are both fascinating. The reader is good but this book is way too long. I give it 3 stars for a close up look of the EASTERN front in World War 2 and also we can see how the influx of American weapons and trucks helped change the Russian ability to fight the Germans.

Heinz Linge worked with Adolf Hitler for a 10 year period from 1935 until the Fuhrer's death in the Berlin bunker in May 1945. He was one of the last to leave the bunker and was responsible for guarding the door while Hitler killed himself. During his years of service, Linge was responsible for all aspects of Hitler's household and was constantly by his side. He claims that only Eva Braun stood closer to Hitler over these years. Through a host of anecdotes and observations, Linge recounts the daily routine in Hitler's household; his eating habits, his foibles, his preferences, his sense of humour, and his private life with Eva Braun.

PLOT: personal assistant to Hitler this close up look at the inner circle of Adolph Hitler.

Heinz Linge~ is "gopher" to Hitler, bodyguard, driver, assistant, valet. This man lived with Hitler mostly through the "War Years" and this is a very close up look at Hitler and his inner circle. It is very well done. We see how Linge reveals Hitler's Personality and his habits. As well as a very good look at his "relationship" with Eva Braun. The look at Himmler, Bohrman, Goebbels and Goring. the Goring info is especially interesting. Linge who was both intelligent and writes a straight forward bio of Hitler and the final Days INSIDE the bunker in Berlin. As well as the final escape of the few from the bunker including himself and his days as a prisoner in Russia. Much better than expected I would highly recommend this bio. 4 STARS all the way with a very good reader~

General George S. Patton, Jr., died under mysterious circumstances in the months following the end of World War II. For almost 70 years, there has been suspicion that his death was not an accident - and may very well have been an act of assassination. Killing Patton will take listeners inside the final year of the war and recount the events surrounding Patton's tragic demise, naming names of the many powerful individuals who wanted him silenced.

    Story

PLOT: the circumstances surrounding the death of the General George Patton.

General George Patton "old Blood and guts" ...the general who used every bit of his skills and pushed him men to the brink many times. His victories are legendary this larger than life general. He pushed his way into the Rhine and the heart of Germany and helped save BASTOGNE by pushing against very heavy odds to help win the Battle of the Bulge. His distrusted the Russians openly and often offended them in interviews and comments to the point where the KGB....(RUSSIAN secret police) had him on their HIT list. Patton often made many mistakes including "slapping' a soldier and wanting to push ahead of the Russians into Berlin. He suffered from "foot in his mouth".... He knew many secrets of Allies. He was a "loose cannon" in the eyes of many people including 2 American Presidents both FDR and Truman. Some near misses including an attack by a British Spitfire on Patton's plane add to the intrigue. Being sent home and given a "bogus" army to lead.....to save face....Patton is days away from returning to the USA when he is "accidentally" hit by stolen American military truck with 3 DRUNK American soldiers in the truck. Suffering a serious spinal injury but he is expected to live but suddenly dies. Leading yet more mystery surrounding his death. There are NO reports about a stolen truck or investigations of the soldiers involved in the accident. CREDIBLE witnesses including fellow passengers in the same car as Patton.....a General NO less.... and Patton's Driver.....who all said told the same story about the DRUNK soldiers. Did someone "silence" the outspoken Patton so he could not tell HIS story when returning to the US? O'Reilly and Dugard the authors both do admit they do not believe in any kind of "conspiracy" theories on this event. But give plenty information about Military files come up missing or were never investigated. This bio is very entertaining since they give us a close up look from both the American, German and Russian sides of the War and add some very clear pictures of history and of the fascinating and odd.. demise of Patton..... VERY good.....4 stars all the way.
