Good audiobook.
PLOT: Jane needs rescuing by ex CIA operative Grant Sullivan. Early but goodie by Linda Howard.
1984 early Linda Howard...first of her "mercenary".....adventure romances. Spoiled RICH....Jane Greer is "held captive" in hot Central America. Her father hires "ex CIA operative Grant Sullivan. Grant known as the Tiger for his stealthy moves and golden eyes. Grant gets close enough to see Jane who is a "captive" ..but Grant feels Jane is .anything but a CAPTIVE ....maybe a 'willing victim?'...... But Jane also knows where some very "valuable" microfilm everyone wants. Jane chooses to make good on her "escape" at the same time Grant "rescues her"... the two end up together one step ahead of the BADDIES hot on their trail. Born loner Grant is drawn to Jane. as the Romance and the JUNGLE both "heat up"...the fun does not end with her "rescue"....Jane sets up a plot of her own to bring GRANT back to "rescue" her yet again.........Grant has many walls around his heart and has lived alone...by choice and Jane is the first woman to get emotionally close to Grant. This is the FIRST book by Linda Howard that adds ADVENTURE to the romance. An early gem. Good story. I give the Story 5 STARS....Performance 4 STARS...Brenda Sweeney is pretty good but her "Jane voice" at times is a bit whiney....that is the only that keeps me from giving Brenda Sweeney 5 stars.....Thank you Dreamscape Media lets keep these coming.
PLOT: 1941~ the biggest battleship in the Nazi Fleet is soon to be loose in the Atlantic...the British are out to find her and sink her.
The Bismarck is the largest of the Nazi Battleships newly made and out in the Baltic and headed to the Atlantic to sink every British ship she can find. She makes her move toward the Atlantic In the fog....but the Brits decided to head her off ...and send in their biggest and best...HMS HOOD which the Bismarck promptly sinks. the Brits decided they have to "sink the Bismarck" at all costs. Using a combination of surface ships and air craft carriers they soon merge on the Bismarck and slow her down but still she holds them off with 8....15 inch guns. The clever German Admiral using a zig zag pattern soon have her loose the "Brits" who are following her...and she is out of radar range and gone before they know what to do next. But logic gives her only two choices and the Brits again plot a "fleet" of ships with even more air power to lie between her and SAFETY in France for the ship. a DAMAGED rudder has the Bismarck making one last move to head to France with "air support" and seagoing tugs to pull the damaged super ship in. But HMS Rodney and torpedo planes from Ark Royal have one deadly battle with the Pride of the Nazi Navy. this book was written by William Shirer (Berlin Diary) and is very well done published as a "children's book" it is still both historically accurate and interesting as we learn the final days of the mighty Bismarck. The reader is very good and this is a book any one who likes history or World War 2 and yet enough details to keep an adult interested, I give this 4 STARS over all Good story.
PLOT: a newsman's view of Nazi Germany from the inside.
William L. Shirer and his wife Tess are living in 1930s Berlin and they view from the inside the Nazi preparing for War. This written in diary form. This starts with the march on the Rhine. This shows us first hand a glimpse into the mind set of Hitler and his Henchmen. We see the people put on rations so the Nazi War Machine can go full force against most of Europe one country at a time. Especially interesting is the Nazi Propaganda hiding the "bombings" on England to give the German People motive to continue the War. We see first hand how far the Nazi Lies go to motive, hide and deceive both the German People and the world. Shirer is both articulate and interesting as he gives us his view of the "inner circle" of Hitler. and we see first hand how FAR the lies of the Nazis go. Included in the start of the "euthanasia" in German with the mentally ill and disabled and why the German excuse of "ending their suffering" was both a threat and lie fulfilled. The READER if first rate and this is both an excellent audio plus a view inside the making of the Nazi climb to power and how they stayed there. I just purchased The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich because this audio was so very good. Typically history is not this interesting. and so very revealing of the "German" mindset and the ruthless way Nazis used it to get a foothold into power and so effectively used it to achieve total control of the German People. Especially effective is the use of Propaganda and total control of the information people received by Newspapers and Radio which "ADDED" to the 'control and motivation' on the road to World War 2. 5 STARS~~~
PLOT: Sarah an American becomes the Duchess of Whitefield ~ one of the BETTER early Danielle Steel romances.
1939~ American heiress Sarah is in England for "the grand tour" on the wake of World War 2 and she meets the handsome Duke of Whitefield. Sarah is very reserve as she had a "secret"....a divorce from an abusive marriage. The Duke "pursues" Sarah and first must gain her trust let alone her love. a whirlwind romance and marriage has them settling in FRANCE. World War 2 starts and this temporarily separates the couple and Sarah is in "German occupied France". Germans take over her Villa. Sarah develops a friendship with a German who becomes a PROTECTOR of her and her children. As the German are driven back into German Sarah finds her husband is missing....but soon is found very disabled and nearly dead but the love brings the couple back to the love they have. The wealthy Duke and Duchess buys the "Jewels" of the "destitute" French who need the cash to begin again in war ravaged France. The Jewels "dynasty" starts with a string of Jewelry Stores. Time had the loss of the duke and the children and grandchildren at "odds" in the struggle to manage the "Jewelry" dynasty. This is an excellent story...It travels through war and into the Swinging 1960s and has it all .....the jealousy between the 4 children is excellent. This one of the very best of the early Danielle Steel books and Tim Curry is very good and it moves along. I give it 4 out of 5......
PLOT: THE ISLAND HOLDS TREASURES~~~
Paranormal romance~ Alice North can "bend light" and so she can "disappear" before your eyes. She has a magic act with her PET...a "dust bunny" ...a dust bunny is not a rabbit but a 6 legged cat like creature with 4 baby blues eyes that is part of the act. Alice is being "stalked by her ex mother in law". HUNK Drake Sebastian is "day blind" and was blinded by his jealous ex lover Zara.....wearing dark glasses to avoid the glare of light ...he is drawn to Alice who he takes in a "marriage of convenience" to pair up to solve the mystery of the ISLAND covered in fog that is rumored to have mystery and "treasure'.....using the "talents" of Alice and even Drake help this move along well. ONE of the BETTER paranormal romances in a long time. Dust Bunny is adorable and fun and has you laughing at his antics. Lots of death and drama and mystery here but the romance between Alice and Drake is solid and interesting. I GIVE THIS ONE 4 OUT OF 5 for romance, mystery and a pet that is "naughty" as he is fun. Holds the interest. VERY Good.
PLOT: psychic Graham Harris sees his own death at the hands of the "butcher".
a SEXUAL serial killer loves to mutilate his "victims" and then eat a hearty meal afterwards has the city in a panic. Psychic Graham Harris has worked with the police before. But this time he sees himself being SHOT by the man known as the "butcher". Graham is pulled into the lastest investigation using his "gifts" and the local news hounds have him in several articles. The Killer decides GRAHAM has to "go" to save himself. The Butcher sees himself as a "superman" who deserves to live and "inferiors" can be killed at his leisure.
This is a very good thriller as Koontz blends the hero's climbing skills into the mystery and action. Koontz "sharing" the brain of the Butcher who shows 'why' he loves to kill.and some good plot twists. This BUILDS and is one of Koontz best early stories. over all 4 STARS.
PLOT: New Bio of the last years of the Kennedy Family in the White House~ VERY GOOD~
SECRETS of Camelot: the beautiful Kennedy Family ...with two adorable children. This new bio is very well researched. The hidden side of the beautiful Kennedy Family have a few new shadows show up. This shows a new "side to Jackie" from her very protective side to her children to her PUTTING up with the philandering husband the President of the USA Jack. JFK is also is portrayed as an over sexed USER of women. "he learned" at the knees of the Master (Joe Kennedy) his cheating father according to this bio. This is a very good book and audiobook. it moves along very well and captures your attention from the first. The reader has a very nice voice and inflection. I really liked it and found new info on the Kennedys. I have listened to several other Kennedy Bios and liked this better than the rest. the "Dr. Feelgood" INFO is very detailed and how both the Kennedys but especially JFK used amphetamines and steroids and pain killers "to boost their energy" from the demands of the White House. I give this 5 out of 5 for the new look inside the glamorous Kennedy White House that is revealing and interesting. GOOD book.
PLOT: Nicholas Constantinos GREEK Billionaire HUNK finds a woman he cannot buy.~
LINDA HOWARDS FIRST BOOK~ SWEET lovely Jessica Stanton is a very young widow with a reputation as a "black widow" due to her marriage to a much older husband. She is beautiful and intelligent. She has some stocks Greek Billionaire Nicholas Constatinos wants. When Jessica votes down a merger ......it brings Nicholas to the UK to "persuade" Jessica to sell no matter "what it takes".....assuming the worst about Jessica~ Nicholas decides to use his passionate nature to both "sweep Jessica off her feet" and get his stocks. But Jessica has a "plan of her own" She cannot be bought. Virgin Jessica married for love not sex and was a widow very young. the battle of the sexes is fun and a GREEK "CAN learn some new rules" LOL about love. This is NOT a romantic suspense like her recent books but the story is good and holds up over time. Jessica is a good heroine and Nicholas "figures" out that Jessica is a RARE gem of a lady. This is a very good book. THE reader is good but could have been much better. THANK YOU DREAMSCAPE MEDIA AND AUDIBLE for finally bringing Linda Howards FIRST book to audio. KEEP them coming....how about Heartbreaker and Duncan's Bride?? HINT hint HINT.....and this is BETTER than the Cutting Edge released last year. I give the READER 3 stars the Story 5 Stars and over all 4 stars. A good audio for a rainy day. Enjoy.
PLOT: THE GENIUS behind the Mary Tyler Moore Show ~ detailed and complete.
1970~ Grant Tinker and Mary Tyler Moore start their own production company MTM enterprises with the CAT ~ they pitch a "single woman" comedy to CBS~ who at best is luke warm in their reception of it. Collecting the best young writers and also a new medium FEMALE comedy writers including the Treva Silverman who writes a pilot that CBS goes for ~ Brooks and Burns kick in soon the Show is sold~t his book is BIO and history of the show complete with all the writers, producers, and STARS. Details bios of the stars and follow up history of the show and stars is included. This is excellent and rich in both story and history of many of the BEST episodes. The cutting edge of woman breaking into the medium in the 1970s complete with the "woman's movement" and equal rights. This starts a little slow but it picks up speed as we get into the show and the fun details of the success. How this show is listed on most lists as THE BEST comedy or one of the BEST of all time. Winner of many Emmys this show rolled along at the top for all 7 years it was on CBS and was a "reason to stay home" on Saturday night. NOT including the Guest STARS Walter Cronkite and Betty Ford. this also tells the "personal" struggles of the CAST and writers in their personal lives also. This is a first rate book and audiobook. It also tells how this show changed the face of comedy writing in tv history. VERY good.
PLOT: serial killer uses the Chicago Worlds Fair to STALK his Prey~ BASED on a real person HH HOLMES~
1893 Chicago ~ Dr. HH Holmes~ is a serial killer~ using many means including cons and theft he builds a block long "home". the home has killing rooms to GAS his unsuspecting victims. and the BASEMENT is a dungeon like place with a "glass furnace" but is used to "dispose" of the bodies. This is told like a docudrama. We see actual events based on history including the Worlds Fair and how Dr. Holmes uses the large number of people who come to Chicago to be a part of the fair to "lure" into his killing spree. Dr. HH Holmes is both a con artist and physician who uses his skills to lure and get rid of his victims for years. When he finally is drawn into a CON of a insurance company THE wife of the victim looks for the husband and after he never shows up along with the two daughters the law arrests Dr. Holmes. Back when forensics were not even using finger prints the Bodies are the only way to convict any one of the crime Dr. Holmes is a very slick man. but a detective used the letters of the two "missing " daughters to track down the girls and discovers a home in Toronto where he finds the bodies in a shallow basement grave. The story is both real and yet we hear so little about this crime til this book. This is a very excellent audio book. I give the Story 4 and performance 4 STARS but the story is so good I give it over all 5 stars due to the ending of the audio keeps you glued. It starts out a little slow but the last 2 hours are unbelievable Shocking. Good story and very good audiobook.
