I made a mistake, I thought this was written for adults. Your 7th grader might like it since no cuss words are used- instead the author literally writes 'bad words.' Ugh.. Tediously full of - I've got to find my family! I've got to find my family! The book is so namby-pamby. If you like a simpleton who does improbable things with a transparent plot line, go for it. I got it based on some reviews and it's one of the few of the hundreds of Audible books I've downloaded where I felt like throwing my iphone on the wall. The narrator doesn't help - he makes the dumb book even dumber.
Predictable and irritating narrators. If you want to read how someone is going to 'gun up,' then this might be for you.
What's with the good reviews? The book was predictable, boring and accompanied by the smarmy, irritating narrator. Ugh. One of the worst books I've listened to (my Audible library has over 250 books).
Listening to his (he he) overactive voice drove me crazy.
The writing was stupid...Rachel...Rachel...Rachel....is this supposed to be an award winner. How depressing.
One of the worst books I've listened to. The narrator's voice of the main character is horribly simpy. The story is mainly predictable and boring.
The story line is non-stop and the characters are interesting. The narrator is fantastic - I can't believe I haven't come across him before. His narration makes the story leap from the page, so to speak.
It was hard to follow this story with the horrible monotone of the narrator. I'll never listen to this narrator again.
Horrible characters that you don't care about. Meandering without warning between past and present. Narrator dull
Interesting insights into WWII Russia, with wonderful characters. Narration excellent.
The plot was interesting and the narration excellent. I enjoyed both past and present stories
