Most narrated by Keith himself, the book gives a somewhat biased view of the Rolling Stones by somebody who is not Mick Jagger. Often the band is perceived as Mick Jagger and the rest of them, but this book tells a different story. It is not a book of gossip, but just a recollection of experiences and the authors view on relationships.
Although I grew up listening to the Stones I would not have considered listening to this book ever, but a penfriend in Nashville (I live in New Zealand) told me how much he was enjoying reading the book so I thought I would give it a go. I am glad I did.
Keith is Keith. Johnny Depp tries to be Keith. Interestingly, Johnny Depp based his Captain Jack Sparrow accent and mannerisms on Keith Richard, who actually played Captain Jack's father in one of the movies.
hisThis may be a strange comment, but the book made me interested. There were no "LOL" moments but at times it made me sympathetic to the rock & roll heroes. I have not been a huge fan of the band, although I have all of their albums, but this book made me want to get them all out and re-evaluate them based on what was happening to the individual band members at the time.
Surprising good listen - well worth the 5 stars I gave it.
I have enjoyed all of the Warrior Of Rome books and alway7s look forward to the next one. This was simply "the next one".
The narator did a good job with the two men's voices.
I liked the concept and delivery of the story, but the reality is that the story is simply a conversation between 2 old guys discussing faith, hope and life's realities.
So....by the end I was ready for it to finish.
Would make a better play - went to see the movie with friends and everybody was bored.
The continuation of the business of Jane Whitefield - the central character.
The whole concept of the main character as a modern-day heroine putting her own body (and life) on the line for others.
To me, she is Jane Whitefield.
I discovered Thomas Perry in 2011 via the first Jane Whitefield novel, and within 12 months I had listened to all of his books. He is now my favourite author. My favourite series is the Jane Whitefield stories but I also enjoy the Butcher's Boy series as well as the individual stories.
Good action story
The fight against a coven of German witches
The book didn't make me laugh or cry.
This is the 2nd boook in the series that I have read. His relationships with his dog, a werewolf, a vampire (both his 24/7 lawyers), his apprentice and a coven of witches are aspects I am looking forward to hearing develop. I am not a big fan of sword and sorcery, but this is a normal life with a smidgeon of the supernatural to add the spice of adventure - a good read.
Having only watched the movie version of Treasure Island, I didn't really know why I bought this audiobook but it was a real dilight from start to finish. It was a good story which seemed to follow (or preceed) what I remembered from the movie so it made me buy the original Treasure Island audiobook.
Long John Silver I remembered as a villian, but in this book he was not only a victim, but a genuine hero.
The reading was very good by Tim who seemed to be as much into the story as I was.
The author advised that, although Treasure Island was a children's book, Flint and Silver (and the subsequent books) are aimed at adults.
I cant wait for the 2 sequels (but still prequels to Treasure Island?) to come out on audiobook. Bring It On!
I became an audiobook reader 9 years ago when I worked for a mission agency. When you wake up in the jungle in PNG because of the heat, can't get out of the mosquito net because of malaria carrying mosquitos and/or snakes, Audiobooks ara a great way to pass the time. Nowdays I don't read if I can listen,
Love the Butcher's Boy concept of riding the center line dealing to the baddies while avoiding the goodies with a healthy respect.
Michael Kramer does a creditable job with this book as he does with other Perry books.
For years I have bought lots of
I don't know where Thomas Perry has been but I think it's a shame that his books haven't had greater exposure. I would love to see them on the screen one day.
