A graduate of a prestigious French culinary school, Peyton has just lost her job as a food critic after rightfully accusing her boss of sexual harassment. Out of work and in a bad place personally, to Peyton a year doing something completely different sounds wonderful. Peyton dives into learning the resort business but is quickly derailed by an escalating chain of events that puts her life in danger. She refuses to be intimidated - until she’s nearly killed. Then she calls on her childhood friend and protector, Finn MacBain, now with the FBI, and asks for his help.

    Any additional comments?

Though her voice is pleasant, Ms. McFadden seemed to have difficulty keeping the characters accents & attitudes straight. Girls from Texas (and others) ended up at times with a flat Minnesota accent. Frustratingly inconsistent.

When FBI agent Grayson Kincaid first encounters Olivia MacKenzie, she makes quite an impression. The beautiful, tough young attorney has stumbled into the middle of an FBI sting operation and reduced it to chaos. Months of surveillance and careful planning down the drain, Kincaid’s partner is furious and lets Olivia know that she’s ticked off the wrong guy. After all, he’s FBI. But Olivia isn’t intimidated by his partner’s bullying because she’s something even scarier...she’s IRS.

Would you try another book from Julie Garwood and/or Angela Dawe?

    Love Garwood.
    Hate Dawe.

What did you like best about this story?

JG's books are always sweet and funny! Love the strong women and men and their quirky sense of humor.

Would you be willing to try another one of Angela Dawe’s performances?

Absolutely NOT. Will likely return this book because of the horrible narration. Every sentence was rushed/anxious. Ms. Garwood's books are sweet, fun, and sensitive. This narration did not portray any of those emotions. There was no difference in speed or inflection between warm romantic scenes and suspenseful angry scenes. On a scale of 0 to 10, for me she was below 0. Very disappointing.
From the first sentence, listening to Dawe was a trial. I will not listen to her again, even for a Julie Garwood book :'(
