Five years ago, Dru Rayne and her uncle fled from Louisiana to Los Angeles after Hurricane Katrina hit, but now they face a different kind of danger. A neighborhood protection gang savagely beats Dru’s uncle, but Pike witnesses it and offers his own brand of protection. Oddly enough, neither of them seems to want it — and neither do the federal agents mysteriously watching their storefront, men who appear quite willing to let the gang have its way.

    "Pike grows on you"
    Overall

Crais' character Joe Pike grows on you. Tough guy loaner who has a heart and needs people more than he portrays or wishes to. A good listen. Fun, but don't expect super in depth writing. In the thriller/action dept. it has some good parts. Story development and character development are above average but fairly predicable and simple. I would recommend it but more for an easy, fun listen. Don't expect too much and you will enjoy this for what it is, a good story told well.

His plan is meticulous, spectacular, and successful. But from the shadows, someone is watching. A very powerful someone, who is impressed by Gideon's special skills.

"First Preston and Child book... I'm hooked!"
    Overall

Although the plot is one we have seen before, this book is great. The character development is excellent, the story is fun and exciting. The action is dispersed well between the suspense and development stages of the book. These authors have me hooked on their writing/story telling. This was the first of what is now several books of theirs that I have enjoyed incredibly much. The narrator is good and like I said, this one got me coming back to these guys again and again. Highly recommend looking into these guys stories!

It's fire season, and the hills of Los Angeles are burning. As the residents of Laurel Canyon are being evacuated from their homes, Police and Fire Department personnel find the corpse of a recluse who apparently committed suicide. Clutched in his lap is a photo album containing photographs of seven young women who have been murdered.

    "simple and predictable"
    Overall

Crais does a good job with his characters. This is a decent plot with okay development. It would be a simple read and is an even more simple listen. It ranks slightly above average in the "thriller" department and is good if you like series and watching a character or two develop. I will continue to listen to Crais' books because I know the development happens in the later books in the series.

At the old family manse in Louisiana, Special Agent Pendergast is putting to rest long-ignored possessions reminiscent of his wife Helen's tragic death, only to make a stunning - and dreadful - discovery. Helen had been mauled by an unusually large and vicious lion while they were big game hunting in Africa. But now, Pendergast learns that her rifle-her only protection from the beast-had been deliberately loaded with blanks. Who could have wanted Helen dead...and why?

Once again Preston and Child do a good job developing their characters and drawing you in. Early on you think you know what's going on and then they twist it again... and again. Rene Auberjonois has become one of my favorite narrators on Audible.

A centuries-old, cursed pirate's treasure, valued at over $2 billion, lies deep within the treacherous waters off the coast of Maine. Men who have attempted to unearth the fortune have suffered gruesome deaths. Will a high-tech expedition meet the same fate?

Allan says: "very cinematic. high tech meets pirate treasure."
    "long but worth it"
    Overall

Preston and Child have become some of my favorite authors through audible. There ability to grow characters and draw you in is amazing. Great story, draws upon your childhood sense of adventure and desire to believe in buried treasure! A good listen.

Would have got a 5 but for the length and the narrator. Scott Brick is good, but not great.
