Navajo Nation Police Officer Bernadette Manualito witnesses the cold-blooded shooting of someone very close to her. With the victim fighting for his life, the entire squad and the local FBI office are hell-bent on catching the gunman. Bernie, too, wants in on the investigation, despite regulations forbidding eyewitness involvement. But that doesn't mean she's going to sit idly by, especially when her husband, Sergeant Jim Chee, is in charge of finding the shooter. Bernie and Chee discover that a cold case involving his former boss and partner, retired Inspector Joe Leaphorn, may hold the key.

Would you try another book from Anne Hillerman and/or Christina Delaine?

I would like to give Anne Hillerman another chance but not the narrator!

What was most disappointing about Anne Hillerman’s story?

I, like other reviewers, had the villian figured out half way through book!! Which left later part of book's supense dependent on Leaphorn's outcome & how all the involved agencies would finally figure out 'who dun it'!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Even taking into consideration my bias toward Geo Guidall as narrator of Tony Hillerman's books I absolutely could not get into Delaine's narration!! The navajo female voices all sounded the same and the males feminine. Ugh.

What character would you cut from Spider Woman's Daughter?

The sister was unredeemable as written and I was left hanging as to her outcome or how 'stooped boy' played into her character.

    Any additional comments?

Prehaps I had too high of hope for this book. Those were mighty big shoes to fill and I really felt Tony himself was having difficulty filling his own shoes the last several books. They just weren't up to the first ones!

Since its publication in 1960, William L. Shirer’s monumental study of Hitler’s German empire has been widely acclaimed as the definitive record of the 20th century’s blackest hours. The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich offers an unparalleled and thrillingly told examination of how Adolf Hitler nearly succeeded in conquering the world. With millions of copies in print around the globe, it has attained the status of a vital and enduring classic.

Would you listen to The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich again? Why?

Yes, There was so many interesting details that I am sure if I listen again I would learn something new again.

What did you like best about this story?

I have never understood how so evil a man as Hitler could rise to power -- after reading/listening to this book I understand now. A lesson to be learned that fragmented political parties can allow such to occur.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The staggering number of human life so blazely taken by the nazis in the Concentration Camps & of the POWs

    Any additional comments?

I am still unbelieving that there are people who believe the Holocaust never happened. Shameful.

With over 15 million copies of his books in print, Father Andrew M. Greeley has an unmatched flair for writing entertaining fiction that offers wry observations about religious and secular life. His popular novels featuring Bishop Blackie Ryan offer delightful locked-room mysteries set against the intricate politics of the Catholic church.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

As usual Mr Guidall is excellent and kept me listening to this book longer then I probably would have if another narrator was doing this book.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I found disappointment to be the main "spark" -- the answer to the "mystery" was so very anticlimatic.

Would you listen to The Dogs of Christmas again? Why?

Probably not. . The first 'read' was enough. Cried and laughed in all the right places.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lucy. . .she sounds very much like my dog, accepting what comes her way and delirously happy when I return home.

    Any additional comments?

While this is not Shakespeare --- it was a very nice pre-Christmas story to listen to while I sew! Plot might seem implausible to some but it isn't implausibe to any one who has experienced loses/trauma.Happy Holidays!!
