I believe I will have to pay attention to the era some books were written in. I do not believe I am one that appreciates a book written in 1859 that apparently was serialized just so the people of the time could figured out. Immediately after finishing this book I read The Gods of Gotham by Lyndsay Faye and could not put that one down. The Woman in White was not such a page turner. The art instructor, a young man, sounded like a grandfather. That alone did not help the continuity of the story as many other older gentlemen characters were involved.

Had a little more to offer. If it wasn't for Scott Brick, there would be no salvation. I don't believe I will be following this trilogy any time in the future.

Sorry, I know a lot of you really liked this one, but it didn't work out for me. Way too slow and so-so plot of can we get away with murder in the woods with no one looking....

This was one book that once I began, I found it very difficult to stop listening. It is not a book bashing Scientology but rather a documentary of sorts that starts at the beginning of Scientology and brings you up to its current status. I disagree with the other reviewer as to the footnotes. I found those to be very interesting and necessary. Just more validation to support the book. So many things are covered regarding Scientology that just make you shake your head and are very sad and deplorable. Not to say that things like this do not happen in other "religions", but the focus of this book is on Scientology. Unfortunately the tragedy which unfolded at Waco really gave rise to Scientology's allowable existence in the eyes of the IRS. In this regard, Scientology was basically given the green light to proceed pretty much without sanction other than within their inner hierarchy. Truly a sad situation for those involved with Scientology who now desire the opportunity to leave of their own free will with no strings/debts attached.

I wanted something for a Halloween read and this wasn't it. Took forever to get rolling and when it was semi acceptable, it totally fell apart. On top of everything it was one of those books with no ending. Very disappointing read.

Finally a book with a really good twist at the end! This one gets you at the start and keeps you to the finish. Great book!

I cannot remember how many times I restarted this book! But I do remember falling asleep every time I restarted this book.
The narrator was excellent, I would listen to him again anytime.
Rowlings needs to stay in imaginary worlds where she is so much more entertaining and the reader develops a bond with the characters--and knows who is who and cares about them.
This book was a train wreck to listen to, no offense to Hogwarts...

Have listened to this for three hours and still can't get into it. I see no 'plot' evolving. The performance is good, but so far the 'story' sucks. I regret wasting a credit on this book. It is nothing like I expected. A book like this should come with some sort of warning about its content. I guess other people might find the content amusing, I do not.

I mainly bought this version because of Kathy Bates. I did not pay attention to the fact that it was the abridged edition. Make sure if you purchase this book that you get the unabridged edition. The abridged edition was a waste of money and time.

I remember these horrible incidents well. It happened during the summer between my junior and senior year of high school. I still have my well worn paperback book after all of these years. I always admired Vincent Bugliosi for delving into such a risky story as he did. Bad enough for his family he was prosecutor on the case, but just dealing with such madness day in and day out is uncomprehensible. Still the best true crime story ever, unfortunately.
