The Mote In God's Eye is their acknowledged masterpiece, an epic novel of mankind's first encounter with alien life that transcends the genre. No lesser an authority than Robert A. Heinlein called it "possibly the finest science fiction novel I have ever read".

    Story

One of my all time favourites from my youth - sadly dated. Has very little plausability in the modern world of technology, Why did all these writers from 50 years ago, never cotton on to computers of the future? A dated story of limited interest, read by a squeaky voice - maybe a good narrator would have made an interesting story out of this but the narration failed worse than the story.

This novel is a story inspired from John Grisham's own childhood in Arkansas. The narrator is a farm boy named Luke Chandler, age seven, who lives in the cotton fields with his family in a little house that's never been painted. The Chandlers farm 80 acres, and when the cotton is ready they hire a truckload of Mexicans and a family from the Ozarks to help harvest it. For six weeks they pick cotton, battle the heat, the rain, the fatigue, and sometimes, each other.

A great story, six weeks in the life of a seven year old - not the likely scene to hold a reader entranced but it does that very wel... Ably assisted by an excellent narrator. I will be looking for more of his readings.

  • Death by Black Hole: And Other Cosmic Quandaries

Neil deGrasse Tyson has a talent for guiding readers through the mysteries of outer space with stunning clarity and almost childlike enthusiasm. This collection of his essays from Natural History magazine explores a myriad of cosmic topics. Tyson introduces us to the physics of black holes by explaining what would happen to our bodies if we fell into one; he also examines the needless friction between science and religion, and notes Earth's status as "an insignificantly small speck in the cosmos".

Believing I was buying a ScuFi story, I found I was listening to aload of rubbish, phsyics for kindergarten.
    Should have been better described.
