Would you consider the audio edition of Italian Phase 1, Unit 01-05 to be better than the print version?

Not applicable. This is designed to be a listening experience, not a written one.

What did you like best about this story?

Learning is almost effortless, as I imagine it must have been learning a first language as a toddler.

What does the narrator bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

    Not applicable.

    Any additional comments?

I have used Pimsleur for Spanish, French, Italian and Japanese, and I still remember each other tme even though I haven't used the French or Spanish for years. It is an excellent method for learning while driving or working around the house, since it is all audio-based. Pimsleur's understanding of how language memory works is revolutionary.

Lord Miles Vorkosigan has a problem that all his new power can't solve: unrequited love for the beautiful Vor widow Ekaterin Vorsoisson. Ekaterin is violently allergic to marriage as a result of her first exposure. But, as Miles learned from his late career in galactic covert ops, if a frontal assault won't do, go to subterfuge.

I won't repeat the many praises of the other reviewers, except to say they are all true. Bujold has a way of phrasing essential truths, often via Cordelia's wisdom, in a way you want to keep, quote, and pass on to your kids.
In this book, she has outdone herself in the arena of saying perfectly what MUST be said right. Miles' letter to Ekaterin is a template for the true declaration of love that rivals anything Shakespeare offers. Oh, that I could have said it so well when the time came to declare my love to my own heart's Countess...

Miles Vorkosigan graduates from the Barrayaran Military Academy with high expectations of ship command, but is disappointed with an assignment as meteorologist to Lazkowski Base, an arctic training camp. His tenure in the windy, snow-covered north is cut short when Miles narrowly averts a massacre between the trigger-happy base commander and mutinous recruits. After a brief stay under 'house arrest', Miles is re-assigned to investigate a suspicious military build-up near a wormhole nexus.

This review is for the entire series of Barryar/Vorkosigan books. I have them all in book and audio, and I can re-read or re-listen with no loss of enjoyment. Bujold's characters manage to be both larger than life and entirely human. Her insights into human nature are quotable, and the universe in which these books are set is complete and believable.
Sometimes I envy those who have yet to read these for the first time, just because they have so much yet to discover. I eagerly await each new book in the series, and have never been disappointed.
Now take the excellent writing and pair it with one of Audible's best narrators, and you have a winning experience on all levels.
It is no accident that Bujold has won so many Hugo awards. This is science fiction at its very best.
