As a toddler, Jacobia Tiptree watched a man kill her mother. Jake once believed that man to be her father. Now, 35 years after the murder, as the real killer's long-delayed trial is about to begin, the defendant has vanished. Jake tries to distract herself from murder with the constant attempts to keep her 1823 Federal-style fixer-upper from tumbling down on her head. But when her best friend's infant daughter suddenly goes missing, Jake feels her dark past wrapping itself around her.

    Overall

I have been an Audible listener for over 4 years, and this book ranks at the bottom of my selections from Audibile. I have read and listened to all of the "Jake" books and have pretty much liked them. This one, however, has a plot so far away from plausible that it is bordering on foolish. The Maine accents are horrendous (take that from a native Mainer who has lived Downeast for 20 ears), and anyone who lives near the Atlantic Ocean, especially in the cold waters off Eastport, will recognize that spending any amount of time in the frigid ocean waters is deadly. The 3 year old in this book must be bionic to survive her spill in the water and getting thrown against a wooden structure after she had been kidnapped and drugged with opium for a day. I only finished listening to the book because I didn't want to "waste" my Audible credit.

In John Scalzi's re-imagining of H. Beam Piper's 1962 sci-fi classic Little Fuzzy, written with the full cooperation of the Piper Estate, Jack Holloway works alone for reasons he doesnt care to talk about. Hundreds of miles from ZaraCorps headquarters on planet, 178 light-years from the corporations headquarters on Earth, Jack is content as an independent contractor, prospecting and surveying at his own pace. As for his past, thats not up for discussion.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Kudos to the author and narrators! I loved the book and think the narration was perfect. This was well worth a July credit.

In her best-selling debut, Commencement, J. Courtney Sullivan explored the complicated and contradictory landscape of female friendship. Now, in her highly anticipated second novel, Sullivan takes us into even richer territory. For the Kellehers, Maine is a place where children run in packs, showers are taken outdoors, and old Irish songs are sung around a piano. By turns wickedly funny and achingly sad, Maine unveils the sibling rivalry, alcoholism, social climbing, and Catholic guilt at the center of one family, along with the abiding, often irrational love that keeps them coming back....

    "Need for audio editing"
    Overall

I am a long-term Audible listener and have listened to hundreds of audiobooks. The narration of J. Courtney Sullivan's novel is one of the most inconsistent readings. I was amazed to hear at least three errors where characters are incorrectly identified (not Kathleen) and timeline is inaccurate (If Kathleen and Maggie leave after the July 4th fireworks, then they are leaving on July 5 - not August 5). Someone needs to do some serious editing with this audiobook.
