  • Where There's Smoke

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Sandra Brown
    • Narrated By Natalie Ross

No one knows why Lara Mallory opens up her medical practice in the rowdy Texas town where Tackett Oil owns everything. But everyone remembers her role in the well-publicized scandal that caused the downfall of White House hopeful Senator Clark Tackett. Now the ironfisted matriarch of Tackett Oil intends to use her money and power to drive Lara out of town...especially when Lara meets Key, the hell-raising, youngest Tackett son.

    Kyla says: "Loved It!"
    "Would NOT recommend..."

This book is all over the place, it feels like. It is too long for the story line. Takes forever to get to the point and feels disjointed. The trip to Montesangre just doesn't fit in with the rest of the story.

  • The Cuckoo's Calling

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Robert Galbraith
    • Narrated By Robert Glenister

After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: his sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

Tracey says: "Unbelievable debut mystery set in London"
    "Would NOT recommend!"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This book was too slow and way too long. It took me three attempts over the last year to listen to this book, and even though I finished it, after 5 hours, I skipped the next 7 hours and had to force myself to keep listening to find out who done it.

Has The Cuckoo's Calling turned you off from other books in this genre?

I likely won't listen to anymore of JK Rowling's books under this pseudonym.

What character would you cut from The Cuckoo's Calling?

He was a little hard to understand at times, but I got used to his accent.

  • Sycamore Row

    • UNABRIDGED (20 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By John Grisham
    • Narrated By Michael Beck
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

Brock says: "Grisham at his best (again)"
    "Grisham's best work yet!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would HIGHLY recommend this book. It is captivating from beginning to end, and also does a great job of dealing with one of our nation's long buried social issues.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sycamore Row?

I don't want to give it away. It's at the end.

Which character – as performed by Michael Beck – was your favorite?

Maybe not my "favorite" character, but Beck did a great job of portraying Lucien. I couldn't help liking the man, despite his shortcomings.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Again, the moment thta moved me the most was at the end.

    Any additional comments?

I feel this is probably Grisham's best work yet. The story is very compelling!! Also, as a certified court reporter for over 35 years, I always look for inconsistencies, and he does a great job of being authentic where the legal world is concerned. Can't wait for his next book.

  • The Heist: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Janet Evanovich, Lee Goldberg
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare is known for her fierce dedication and discipline on the job, chasing down the world’s most wanted criminals and putting them behind bars. Her boss thinks she is tenacious and ambitious; her friends think she is tough, stubborn, and maybe even a bit obsessed. And while Kate has made quite a name for herself for the past five years the only name she’s cared about is Nicolas Fox - an international crook she wants in more ways than one.

Janels says: "Evanovich, no longer trite--entertaining romp"
    "Really enjoyed this!"
What made the experience of listening to The Heist the most enjoyable?

I am a Janet Evanovich fan, even though I think she needs to end the Stephanie Plum series. This book is a new avenue for her that I hope she and Lee Goldberg continue to pursue. I enjoyed this book enough that I might even listen to it a second time, something I never do!!

  • The Black Echo: Harry Bosch Series, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 49 mins)
    • By Michael Connelly
    • Narrated By Dick Hill
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For LAPD homicide cop Harry Bosch - hero, maverick, nighthawk - the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal. The dead man, Billy Meadows, was a fellow Vietnam "tunnel rat" who fought side by side with him in a nightmare underground war that brought them to the depths of hell.

Daniel Mcafee says: "What a Terrific Book"
"Like! Plan on listening to more from this series"

I listened to one of the newer books in this series. Liked it well enough to go back to this one, the first in the series. Next, I plan to download Book 2 in the series. Like the Harry Bosch character.

This book took me forever to listen to. I made myself finish it. Wouldn't recommend it.

The green and gold of France during a hot August is poignantly remembered by Cecil, the middle sister of a family of English children on holiday in the champagne country of the Marne. The sudden illness of their mother means the children are left to deal as best they can with the hostile, mysterious, but entrancing world of the Hotel des Oeillets.

    Hannah says: "Wow!"
    "Did not enjoy"

Could not wait to until I finished this book. I only finished it because I cannot start a booik without finishing it. Sorry.

  • Middlesex

    • UNABRIDGED (21 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Jeffrey Eugenides
    • Narrated By Kristoffer Tabori

In the spring of 1974, Calliope Stephanides, a student at a girls' school in Grosse Pointe, finds herself drawn to a chain-smoking, strawberry-blonde classmate with a gift for acting. The passion that furtively develops between them - along with Callie's failure to develop physically - leads Callie to suspect that she is not like other girls. In fact, she is not really a girl at all.

Christopher Allen walker says: "Great Pulitzer Winning novel!"
    "Really enjoyed it."

It didn't start out like I expected, but it was very good. At first, I wanted him to get past the whole family history thing and get to current day, but it turned out that I got very involved in the history and can't imagine telling the story without it.

    • By Betty J. Eadie
    • Narrated By Betty J. Eadie

At the age of 31, Betty Eadie died after routine surgery. The events that followed can only be described as the most profound and extensive near-death experience ever recorded. During the time she was clinically dead, Betty was given knowledge of the afterlife that would make even the greatest skeptic think twice. As she traveled through the spiritual realm, she learned more about the laws and history of the universe than perhaps anyone before her.

    Cindy says: "Amazing!"

I recommend this book to anyone and everyone. Everything she says makes sense. Inspirational and comforting.
