Winter Makepeace lives a double life. By day he's the stoic headmaster of a home for foundling children. But the night brings out a darker side of Winter. As the moon rises, so does the Ghost of St. Giles-protector, judge, fugitive. When the Ghost, beaten and wounded, is rescued by a beautiful aristocrat, Winter has no idea that his two worlds are about to collide. Lady Isabel Beckinhall enjoys nothing more than a challenge. Yet when she's asked to tutor the Home's dour manager in the ways of society, Isabel can't help wondering why his eyes seem so familiar - and his lips so tempting.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

OH Yes, it was a great story,it works as a stand alone, however you would get an in depth view if you have read the 1st 3 books.

This is Winter Makepeace's story, he was an amazing character, with a fascinating past, which is revealed with perfect pacing between action and passion.

What did you like best about this story?

I love Winter and Isabelle's characters, they were perfect together. I actually LOVED her maid, she was a little nutty & obsessed with Isabelle's clothing.( she's really cute)

What does Ashford MacNab bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is one of my favourite narrarators, I could not imagine anyone else reading this series.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Christina Bennett had taken London society by storm. The ravishing beauty guarded the secret of her mysterious past until the night Lyon, Marquis of Lyonwood, stole a searching, sensuous kiss. An arrogant nobleman with a pirate's passions, he tasted the wildfire smoldering beneath Christina's cool charm and swore to possess her.... But the feisty and defiant Christina would not be so easily conquered. Mistress of her heart and of her fortune, she resisted Lyon's sensuous caresses.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Lion's Lady to be better than the print version?

They are both fantastic, I like that I can listen to a book in the car on the way to work, and when I am unable to listen, I can read where I left off.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Lion's Lady?

I really loved the opening story of Christina's Dakota Family. I was so detailed, it really makes the reader understand Christina later on in the story.

I also loved the interaction with Christina and one of Lyon's "ladies", it was HYSTERICAL!!

What does Susan Duerden bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I loved Susan Duerden's narration. A lot of the reviews were complaining that she whispered too much. A lot of the dialogue required whispering, so I wasn't quite sure what the complaints were about.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Oh ya if I had the time, I would have. I did finish it in under 2 days though.

    Any additional comments?

Julie's Historical's are ALWAYS worth the credit. I can't wait for Guardian Angel, The Gift, and Castles.

    Story

It started off great.Fantastic plot, characters, witty dialogue with a touch intrigue.

Julien Blackworth is caught in bed with the wrong woman, a spinsterish woman named Izzy. He was drunk, he went to the wrong bedroom, he got caught... Voila ! He has to marry Izzy. But Izzy, doesn't want get married, she wants to move out of her wicked cousin house, collect her inheritance left to her by her late mother, and go to America...
So Izzy convinces Julien to agree to a mock engagement (or so she thinks), and then in 4 months they can break it off. She will be of age to get her money and sail to America.

While Julien "agrees" to the plan, he has a plan of his own... He will marry Izzy, inherit the Dukedom, and set her up in the country all while continuing the way he is (a man-whore) with no thought for his wife.

But as he spends more time with Izzy, he begins to see her in a different light. He wants to spend time with her, he thinks about her when he is with other women, blah, blah, blah.
When his best friend Eric begins to show interest.... What a shock! Julien doesn't like it.
In fact while at a garden party with Izzy, Julien is in the library making his way up another woman's skirt. all the while Eric is escorting Izzy around the park. Julian happens to look out the window, while with this other woman ( that's nice). He is so furious he runs out of the library, runs into the garden and grabs Izzy away from Eric.
    (Oh Please!!, What an ass!!)
Eric is a little shocked by his behavior because, he knows of Julien's plan for Izzy.
This is when it started to fizzle for me.

He loves her, but doesn't want to.... she loves him but she doesn't think he loves her.....
He thinks she is in love with his best friend Eric... she thinks he's in love with her best friend Celia...this went on for about 3 hours, with a few other things happening in between.
Ugggh, seriously! These people are supposed be be intelligent???

I really would have loved to see Izzy's maid Bette, take a brick upside both their heads....LOL

Susan Ericksen's narration saved this book for me, as did the authors writing style.
I just think that maybe another editor should have been given the original manuscript, and cut out about 3 chapters.

If your not sure whether to download it, if your local library has it, read it first, it may not bother you.
I would recommend downloading it when it goes on sale.

In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks

The fairy tale courtship did not turn into a happily-ever-after. Not until her husband dropped dead, that is. He had been horrible enough to Christiana during their short marriage, and she was not going to allow the traditional period of mourning to ruin her sisters' debuts as well. So she decides to put him on ice and go on as if nothing's happened.... Until the real earl appears.

Yes especially if i need a good laugh.

What other book might you compare The Countess to and why?

    The Deed by Lynday Sands.

What about Sarah Coomes’s performance did you like?

I love Sarah Coomes. I know she always gets mixed reviews, but I have always enjoyed anything she narrates

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was laughing out loud at the scenes where certain characters are trying to move the dead body of an unkind Earl that nobody wants discovered (especially his wife, because if people know he is dead,, she would have to go into mourning, and could not be a sponsor for her sister who is looking for a husband)

Not your typical historical romance, but sometimes it's good not to be typical.

Where does Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 15. It's a great story of long time love, loss, and discovery. Throw in that Julia Quinn character banter.

What did you like best about this story?

The way the main characters develop, it seemed like a natural progression without a rushed ending.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The book shop. Miranda is an avid reader, and wants to purchase a book that is sold only in a man's bookshop. Well Miranda doesn't care, and she wants the book, and then the fun begins.

Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Oh Yea, I love this Highland Laird Series. It's quirky. The characters are fun, quirky and charming.
The dialogue between Ian and Judith is fantastic.
The secondary characters, could have their own stories. In fact they do. Broderick and Ramsey re appear in Ransom. I hope will also be out in audiobook.

Judith is an English women travelling to Scotland to attend the birth of her best friends baby.
Francis Catherine and Judith met when they were 4 and stayed friends even though they were supposed to be enemies.

Iain Maitland is an extremely large Highland Laird and brother- in- law of Francis Catherine. He escorts Judith from England and is immediately attracted to him. Every one is afraid of Iain accept for little Judith.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Secret?

Iain and Judith's wedding. By the time the scene is over Judith isn't quite sure who she married. It is a fantastic and cleverly written laugh- out- loud scene.

Which character – as performed by Susan Duerden – was your favorite?

Loved both Judith and Iain. Also loved the old men on the counsel.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

If this was made into a movie I picture Emily Blunt as Judith and Richard Armitage as Ian.

Yes, it was fantastic listen. The story takes place during the up in Scotland at the time of Mary Stewart Reign. The story flowed, the characters were very real, the narration superb.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved Angus, the "most handsome man in Scotland" was noble, honest and quite "randy". He stays away from politics, to protect his small can.

His "plain wife" Anabella, who he married to obtain land her father owned. She is a a strong woman who does her duty, but with opinions of her own.

What about Jill Tanner’s performance did you like?

She was great, all the characters were great, her timing was amazing.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I loved this book. IMO it's the best of the series. The other heros of the Border series, were a bit arrogant, and some did stray from there "loves", some I would also consider borderline abusive... This book did not have that feel, which was a great change.

    Any additional comments?

This is the 2nd book of the Highland Series featuring the Murray brothers,It's 7 years later as we learn what happened to Nigel since he left Donncoill after losing Maldie to his brother Balfour.
Nigel becomes a mercenary, offering his sword and fighting skills to any French lord who pays the most. But when he wakes up one morning to find himself sprawled in the mud, having spent all night boozing with no recollection of how he got there, he knew it was time for him to go home and face reality. While deep in thoughts, he hears voices and checks to see whom they belong to. He spots two people deep in conversation but knew instantly that the one dressed like a lad is a woman.

Gisele Deveau is a hunted woman. Falsely accused of the gruesome death (no really GRUESOME) of her wealthy husband, she has been running away for a whole year. When Nigel ends up saving her life, she knows that he is her only hope.

Realizing that Gisele's life is in extreme danger, Nigel is overcome with the need to protect her, especially when he learns that she is pretty much on her own. And although she fears men in general Gisele has little choice but to trust the man who has entangled himself in her troubles.

Little do they know that they would be faced with another trouble: that of their growing attraction to each other. Nigel is torn and confused about what he feels for Giselle who looks very much like Maldie, his sister in law - and the reason he left home in the first place. While Gisele is terrified to put her trust in another man after what she has experienced at the hands of her husband.

Gisele is a likable heroine, very similar to Maldie but with a sharper tongue. Both characters are strong and well-matched and as passionate as the first book's characters. I

The homecoming scene was one of my favourites

    Great Series.

Quick plot overview. We open on Fiona Sinclair's wedding day. She has been betrothed to her most hated rival since birth, Myles Campbell. Their clan's have fought over the current King and the rivalry grew worse since the day of Fiona's mothers death. Fiona believes that Myles father murdered her mother.

1/2 way through the book, Fiona has yet to even show a slight defrosting towards her husband. All the while we know some nefarious plot is being set by Fiona's brothers and without Fiona's knowledge.
There are also great secondary characters which could very well translate into their own stories.

I loved the plot twists and the ah ha moments.
Now the narration by Sarah Coomes was FANTASTIC. I loved her Scots accent for both the men and the women.
I especiially loved Fiona's voice, it reminded me of my mom. especially when she's angry and her husband!! LOL

What did you love best about Highland Destiny?

Maldie and Balfour. Balfour is not your typical alpha-male for he is plagued with insecurities about his looks and even feels threatened by his brother, Nigel, who also falls in love with Maldie thus adding to a bit of competition. And Maldie isn't your usual well-bred lady having been born illegitimate and having endured a harsh life with a bitter mother who nearly forced her to a life of prostitution.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Highland Destiny?

When Balfour and the Murray Clan rescue Maldie and Eric from the enemies keep.
    It's really well written.

What does Angela Dawe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love her voice, I know a lot of people don't, but I think she brings such passion to story she narrates.
