"Excellent Memoir, Excellent Narration"
What a stunning memoir! I was pleasantly surprised that the book was as much about life as death. Danticat's excellent telling of her story and describing her family members is impressive. The ending is shocking and infuriating. I commend Danticat for writing this part well, without excessive invectives.
I loved the fantastic narration by Robin Miles. I am now a devoted Robin Miles fan.
As a companion book, one set in Haiti, I recommend Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder.
"Impressive"
An amazing combination of fact and fiction in this historical novel. I commend the Lois Leveen and Robin Miles for the creation of this excellent novel!
"Strength Indeed"
It is amazing that Deo was able to survive and to achieve his life goals. I was especially moved by the descriptions of how the memories of the horrors he saw will always haunt him. Hearing of the generosity of his "sponsors" was also moving. I thought the trip to revisit the places of the horrors was anticlimactic and focused too much on the author. I would have preferred to have listened to a professional narrator.
