We listened to this book will driving cross country. The plot was very basic and predictable. The nice thing was you could fall asleep for 1/2 an hour and not miss a thing. He would still be describing some ridiculous detail that had absolutely nothing to do with the plot. I picked the book based on reviews and the authors popularity. The book promises a lot but never comes through. One redeeming quality was the narrator if not for him I would give it a one.
The content is humerous but I have two complaints.
1. The book is more of a bulletpoint list of quotes than a story which I think I would have enjoyed more, seems somewhat lazy. Just listing things that someone else said is kinda lame.
2. The narrators voice for Dad is way too over the top and cartoonish, it totally takes awY from the humor and personality, as well as bordering on unlistenable.
This story grabbed me right away and took off picking up steam the whole way until about 8 hours in, then everything changed. It slowed way down, the characters became thin and stereotypical. It became fairly predictable with chapters building up to suspenseful spots and you new that the next chapter was going to start off with something new and slow, leaving cliffhangers, that got old. Several major plot threads did not make sense. By the end of the book I was not very interested in the story just trying to finish it, maybe the next book will be better.
