Alissa doesn’t believe in magic. Her father’s stories about the Hold, a legendary fortress where human Keepers learn magic from the enigmatic Masters, are just that—stories. But her mother insists Alissa has inherited her father’s magical ability, so she must go to the Hold to be trained. On her way, she crosses paths with Strell, a wandering musician from the plains.

Unbelievable emotional dialogue from start to finish. Characters that overreact to each situation and then are immediately over their fight and in love again. I know it is easy for a guy who has never written a book to criticize, but this was a tough listen. Sadly, they sold me book two on sale, forcing the purchase of book one. Since I don't like to start in the middle I unfortunately paid full price for this. The next book was not much better. In the book's defense, I must say that its probably great for the intended audience which must be 12 year old girls and not 46 year old men. Can a fantasy writer please write a single story that ends without the need for 5,10, or 15 books?

Larry Ott and Silas “32” Jones were unlikely boyhood friends. Larry was the child of lower middle-class white parents, Silas the son of a poor, single, black mother - their worlds as different as night and day. Yet a special bond developed between them in Chabot, Mississippi. But within a few years, tragedy struck. In high school, a girl who lived up the road from Larry had gone to the drive-in movie with him and nobody had seen her again.

What did you love best about Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter?

It was nice to find a book worth the time to read it nowadays. I have a hard time finding new authors that I like but this was a nice surprise.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter?

The reader did a great job. His voice inflections kept me with it the whole time. It did not sound forced. More like a regular guy just telling a good story.

The ever after, the demonic realm that parallels our own, is shrinking, and if it disappears, so does all magic. It’s up to witch-turned-daywalking-demon Rachel Morgan to fix the ever-after before the fragile balance between magic users and humans fails. Of course, there’s also the small fact that she caused the ley line to rip in the first place, and her life is forfeit unless she can fix it.

    What disappointed you about Vanish?

The book does not have an end and seems to be designed to trap you into buying book after book to see how it ends.

Would you ever listen to anything by Sophie Jordan again?

Yes, I am a 45 year old man and romantic teen novels are not my thing, but I must have a conclusion to the story. The writing is interesting enough to make me want to know how everything turns out.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Dissapointment.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The story is good but I grow weary of books that do not bring some kind of conclusion to a story. This book does not serve as a stand alone. I bought the next book in hope of comming to a conclusion but the next book starts in the middle and ends in the middle.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Each book should be a story that can stand alone even if the characters have continuing adventures in the next book

Was Firelight worth the listening time?

    yes
