One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is one of the most electrifying, most admired novels of our time. Set in the bleak confines of a state mental hospital and narrated by a half-Indian patient named Chief Bromden, it's the story of a titanic battle of wills between two unforgettable characters.

This is the abridged book. If you can, buy the unabridged version. It is worth the extra time. It still holds up as a classic minus the decision not to use a professional narrator.

Good characters, somewhat interesting plot. Narration was good. Book is serialized so it just kind of ends so you can continue shelling out money to see what happens next. Too bad, because this author has seemed to have gotten better.

Cody Hoyt, while a brilliant cop, is an alcoholic struggling with two months of sobriety when his mentor and AA sponsor Hank Winters is found burned to death in a remote mountain cabin. At first it looks like the suicide of a man who’s fallen off the wagon, but Cody knows Hank better than that....

Box is great at character development. Most of his characters are deeply flawed but have redeeming qualities. Cody, the alcoholic main character is great. He is brought to life through the narration and the great writing. Cody is a police officer who is trying to figure out who killed his AA sponsor. The journey is great as Box provides wonderful local color of Yellowstone as well as small town Montana. The settings mirror the split qualities of his characters. Another modern day western done right.

Follow Jack Walker and Red Team as they’re pulled into the shadows to combat creatures that once kept them awake at night.

    Story

Even though the premise has been done before, it held a lot of promise. Unfortunately, the execution was not there. Sometimes the use of 1st person narrative can be tricky and it just didn’t work here. And the narrator was very sterile in his delivery. Not much variation. He sounds like a newscaster not the character from the book.

Isolated on the frozen continent of Antarctica, Mount Erebus, an active volcano named after the Greek God of primordial darkness, acts as a doorway from the underworld of Earth to the hellish, lifeless world around it. Despite the extreme conditions around the crater of Mount Erebus, life exists. Life does not travel to Erebus by way of birds or other plants or animals, but from deep within the Earth itself. Ascending from the dark world beneath Antarctica, microbial life arrives at the surface, only to find itself trapped within the volcano, confined by the icy, lifeless prison.

This book has some charm, some great premises, somewhat interesting characters, but it falls flat. Poor execution. The characters are not three dimensional. They are caricatures. The portrayal of the autistic character is shameful...really off the mark.

    Story

Rich and interesting characters are brought to life with a good narrator. The plot is propelled along with just enough action. I’m a new fan of this author. He really gets you to care about the characters and understand them....even the villains. It makes the reading go by quick...maybe too quick.

This story follows two siblings that witnessed a murder and the complications that arise. Even though you know the culprits, the fun is getting to know these great characters. The suspense is trying to figure out how it’s going to play out. Some of it you can probably guess, but some of it will surprise you.

Adrian's piecemeal life on campus since "That Day" has been a struggle. Retrieving supplies from local neighborhoods filled with the walking dead has been dangerous for him, but he's stayed alive by being a little smarter than the other survivors, and a lot faster than the roaming, hungry zombies that have overtaken his home town, and the world.

I wanted to like this book. I bought this 2nd entry in order to give it a chance and to see if it lives up to all of the high reviews. It doesn’t. While the narrator displays the charm of the main characters and some of the characters are interesting, this book follows the usual zombie template. There is nothing new here. The humor and some of the writing is juvenile at best. I just really don’t get the 5 star reviews.
