After reading the reviews, I took a chance on this book--I am so happy that I did. It was terrific! A great story--the right balance of character development, background info about New Orleans and "hoo doo," and damn scary to boot! If you like suprnatural thrillers that are intelligent and exciting, this book is a MUST!
Its not necessarily my favorite genre of horror, but this author is something special. Creepy as hell, disgusting, wrenching and freakishly realistic for a tall, scary tale.
Not only is it long and dull and disgusting--I agree with what other reviewers said--it is also racist! This book portrays poor people, especially black poor, as if they are animals and savages. I couldn't even finish and I usually listen to everything. I've enjoyed other books by this author in the past but this book has turned me off to even thinking about reading his future works.
