"Another great by Hamilton"
A long and complicated detective story set in the semi-near future--about 300 years ahead. Fun for mystery fans to read about futuristic forensics and see that some things remain the same, such as careful, painstaking work. That's only part of the story, Hamilton flips back and forward to reveal glimpses of the universe, new worlds and dawning colonialism with its troubles and foibles and the ever present bureaucracy. Hamilton, as always, manages to tie up all the loose ends with a more than satisfactory climatic ending. A suspenseful, fun read beautifully narrated with so many intricacies that its worth listening to more than once. Can't help wondering what kind of mind composes masterpieces like this? By the way, this does not seem to be a continued story like the Void Series, but complete in the 36 delightful hours.
"Different"
This alternate word story would probably appeal more to a Navy man. A lot of action and some original ideas but dialogue and basic story too predictable.
"Engrossing tale"
A little slow at the beginning until you get to know the characters and fall in love with them, then I couldn't stop listening even though its long. Sometimes readers doing regional accents are so thick I can't understand them but this reader does a great job sounding authentic but clear. Great insights into a little written about period in Australian history.
"I missed Wallender"
But still a good story with an eccentric main character. Loved the background setting on a lonely island on a lonely, frozen coast. I was sad to reach the end.
"Not as Complicated as Summary indicated"
I was originally put off by the idea of 1000 seedlings or copies, but the story is a fun read and written in such a way to make it not only believable, but fun romp in and through space and time. Another great Reynolds!
"Another Good Wallender Tale"
Enjoyed this maybe a little more at the beginning than the end, but Wallender is always a fun listen and the characters fascinating. i had no problems with the reader but thought the plot a little weak and far-fetched. I've now read almost all the Wallender stories and hope a new one will be coming soon.
"Exciting"
Realistic treatment of a young daughter's murder and its effect on the parents and friends. Suspense great. It bothered me when Rafferty gets into trouble, but the story still kept me glued to the end. Scott Brick is a little dramatic for my taste.
"Didn't Finish"
The opening seemed childish and clicheed--maybe it gets better but I gave up after about one hour.
"Great Mankell"
One of Mankell's best! Interesting plot and story moved right along with less depressing moments from our great police officer (can't spell his name).
"Good Apocalypse Yarn"
I was surprised when this turned out to be an end-of-the-world story--didn't get that from the book description. Lots of action and interesting concepts of what happens next. I got a little tired of the female protagonist, but the rest of the characters were great and the story moved right along.
