Very good book! I went to boarding school in high school too, as a scholarship student--- very real! By the time you've listened to this book, you'll feel like you could call the characters up on the phone, they are people you KNOW
I downloaded this title with a great deal of trepidation. Probably wouldn't have if audible did not have a return guarantee. But, surprisingly it was wonderful! I loved just about every moment of it. (I admit that when the author started to talk about animal testing I turned the volume off for a minute or two -that I can always live without). As a ex travel agent I've been on a lot of cruises and this was very interesting. Yes, he talked a lot about sex and booze but not in a way that I found offensive. Some "romantic" authors have sex scenes that go on for pages and pages and pages.(how boring can you get?) I tend to fast-forward through those. This book, I thoroughly enjoyed! If you have been on cruises, or thinking about taking one , I think you would enjoy it too!
Couldn't put this one down! Wish all the Curtis Black books were available at Audible.
Very interesting insight into skewed thinking of some characters. Renewed my faith in some major characters~ can 't wait for the next installment!
Listening to this book I couldn't help feeling that I was reading a fictionalized account of Steven Stayner and it was fascinating. I wanted to listen to the book all in one sitting and yet I wanted it to last much longer than it did. The narration was spot on! Wish there could be a sequel-I would be in line to buy it!
Memorable characters that you actually care about the book left me feeling like I knew a whole new family.
If you have children and a partner I guess this book could provide some insights... I found it to be lame and useless. Don't waste your $ € £ ¥ in any currency.
Could have, should have been much better. Two narrators, One excellent one mediocre, Sandra Burr, (clan of the cave bear) was wonderful! The male narrator gave such a forgettable performance that I have conveniently enough, forgotten his name. This story lacked the depth of characters that I'm used to seeing in Jodi Picoult's books I also didn't appreciate the gratuitous cruelty to animals.
The ultimate feel-good book! "Slammed" is like the first bite of a hot fudge sundae. If you are reading this, and you haven't yet heard "Slammed"I must say I envy you the experience. Boy girl story with lots of unexpected twists and turns, tears, and laughter. At times I felt myself in envying Lake, but mostly I just admired her. I fell in love with Will at first listen.
Highly highly recommended!
Choppy, hard to follow. Waste of a credit. Very strange book. The reader was very good!
Good reader. The story line was excellent.
I do wish the author had left out the animal abuse, the book would have been better with out it.
The mixture of fact and fiction was flawless.
I would NOT recommend this book to any pregnant woman---not joking!
I had the feeling listening to this that I was being read a college textbook. Information was repeated over and over and over again~I kept waiting for the pop quiz and the final exam! There was some good information in this book, but a lot of it was really common sense things like don't stand around talking to your colleagues when there are customers in the store ---I mean HELLO!?! Who doesn't know that???
I am not a person who is bothered by profanity. However this book had so much that even someone who isn't bothered by it was bothered by it. It's gratuitous and the story would've been just as well, better without every other word being the F word.
The mystery was good. And there were some thought-provoking storylines on relationships.
