Story written by a left wing public servant. Military is paper cut outs whom are perfectly obedient to smarter bureaucratic masters. Hero is super smart and condescending.
This rubbish is definitely NOT milfi. It's just a poor effort. How it ever got published I don't know.
Typical socialist self serving propaganda for the stupid. The guy can't add up, ignores countervailing evidence, and has the academic standards of a teenager. How in the hell this guy even got published raises serious concerns. Do not kid yourself that this is a serious book. It belongs in the fiction section, If not the bin.
I've tried three times to listen to this one. I love webers books. The honor Harrington series is one of my all time favourites. But this one is just BAD. Maybe it's the narrator, or maybe because the narrator in the real series is just so good by comparison. Do not waste your time or effort on this one, it's an insult to Honor.
Series started poorly. The book overly and uncomfortably and too realistically focused on the brutality and misery of defenceless children and random murder. However by the end of the series it all made a point. This series is definitely above average and worth the read. Perhaps this author will be worth future consideration in any new series.
I avoided this one for ages as it sounded like rubbish. However the story and the fun that the narrator has with the story makes the experience plain old good fun. This one is DEFINITELY worth the read! I can only hope that this series goes on for 10+ books. Its a joy to find a new series worth loosing sleep over.
Well worth the lot of time to read. The second book gets lost. Definitely NOT epic! Large is the right word.
The author constantly builds to climaxes and then suddenly sh*ts to years after the event. It feels like you keep missing the last episode of this years season. Other than that, it was an interesting future historical epic overview. Not bad, but I can't raise a whole lot of enthusiasium due to style issues.
I usually Love this authors work. However this is one of John's little fantasy diversions from his real books. It trends towards comic book quality rather than a real scifi book. Which is a shame really as the religious mythologies offer such rich inspiration for great scifi. Definitely a 'could have been great' book. Unfortunately it turned out to be a calorie free light snack. If you enjoy the authors work then you might put up with this story but if you don't follow John's work then don't bother.
A bit of a try hard book. Doesn't pull it off on the story side, it's academic approach is delusional, it's conspiracy theory is mildly interesting boarding on the absurd. Frankly it is pretty much painful. It should never have gotten past the editor without some serious developmental work.
My advice is to give this one a miss.
Something of the old tradition of Science fiction. Huge scope and a nice twist. As a book it did seem under developed, however it was still a tasty treat. Hopefully the next book will improve. This is a book to digest when you are between more serious books.
