Lawrence brings the Broken Empire series to its devastating conclusion. The path to the throne is broken - only the broken can walk it. The world is cracked and time has run through, leaving us clutching at the end days. These are the days that have waited for us all our lives. These are my days. I will stand before the Hundred and they will listen. I will take the throne no matter who stands against me, living or dead, and if I must be the last emperor then I will make of it such an ending. This is where the wise man turns away. This is where the holy kneel and call on God.

    Story

Series started poorly. The book overly and uncomfortably and too realistically focused on the brutality and misery of defenceless children and random murder. However by the end of the series it all made a point. This series is definitely above average and worth the read. Perhaps this author will be worth future consideration in any new series.

I avoided this one for ages as it sounded like rubbish. However the story and the fun that the narrator has with the story makes the experience plain old good fun. This one is DEFINITELY worth the read! I can only hope that this series goes on for 10+ books. Its a joy to find a new series worth loosing sleep over.

The author constantly builds to climaxes and then suddenly sh*ts to years after the event. It feels like you keep missing the last episode of this years season. Other than that, it was an interesting future historical epic overview. Not bad, but I can't raise a whole lot of enthusiasium due to style issues.

Barbara Everette, a homemaker living in a small town in Mississippi, had the perfect life. Perfect husband, perfect children, perfect house, perfect Christian Faith. She cooked and cleaned perfectly and managed all of the chores of the modern suburbanite, toting the kids, running the PTA, teaching kung-fu in the local dojo... perfectly. But perfection has a price, and the day came when Barbara snapped....

I usually Love this authors work. However this is one of John's little fantasy diversions from his real books. It trends towards comic book quality rather than a real scifi book. Which is a shame really as the religious mythologies offer such rich inspiration for great scifi. Definitely a 'could have been great' book. Unfortunately it turned out to be a calorie free light snack. If you enjoy the authors work then you might put up with this story but if you don't follow John's work then don't bother.

By the wonder of reverse tachyon technology, we have been able to retrieve a series of essays on the History of the United States which was published (or will be published) in the year 2190 AD. The author, Hugo Gottfried, was (will be) the custodian of the abandoned research library on Fifth Avenue in New York City. As he began in the middle of the 22nd century to read the old books down in the dark and dusty nether recesses of the crumbling old building, he slowly came to a startling realization.

A bit of a try hard book. Doesn't pull it off on the story side, it's academic approach is delusional, it's conspiracy theory is mildly interesting boarding on the absurd. Frankly it is pretty much painful. It should never have gotten past the editor without some serious developmental work.
My advice is to give this one a miss.

Something of the old tradition of Science fiction. Huge scope and a nice twist. As a book it did seem under developed, however it was still a tasty treat. Hopefully the next book will improve. This is a book to digest when you are between more serious books.

Since 1990, when Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time® burst on the world with its first book, The Eye of the World, listeners have been anticipating the final scenes of this extraordinary saga, which has sold over 40 million copies in over 32 languages. When Robert Jordan died in 2007, all feared that these concluding scenes would never be written. But working from notes and partials left by Jordan, established fantasy writer Brandon Sanderson stepped in to complete the masterwork.

After all that effort and time to get to book 14! This last book was very much about getting it over with rather than doing a good job. The characters narration was changed and that alone ruined it. The tying up of story lines was done in a rushed and superficial manner. Of course after coming the 1st 13 books you have to finish book 14. However I strongly recommend that you manage your expectations.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

A bit of a surprise this one! Don't expect a sweeping mythology with a deep story. Strictly a modern reinterpretation of similar twilight stand alone stories from the past. However it is very well written and narrated. I highly recommend the story for a light bit of fun.

Deep in the Nevada desert is the most secure compound in the United States: Area 51. The most chilling experiment of all time is about to begin there. The president doesn't know about it. Just a few scientists and military personnel working for Majestic-12 do, and they are about to make a very big mistake.

The series as a whole is worth it. The strenuous effort to enter twine every myth of history into a alien conspiracy is good spaghetti. However the individual books can be painful. The 'action' seanes can be pointless, jumpy and painful. I recommend the read -you will just have to put some work into it to enjoy the series.
