No! It's someone talking with their hand over their mouth and leaving out a lot of the vowels.

Would you ever listen to anything by Khaled Hosseini again?

No! The author should try plumbing.

What didn’t you like about the narrators’s performance?

  • How Jesus Became God: The Exaltation of a Jewish Preacher from Galilee

In a book that took eight years to research and write, leading Bible scholar Bart D. Ehrman explores how an apocalyptic prophet from the backwaters of rural Galilee crucified for crimes against the state came to be thought of as equal with the one God Almighty Creator of all things. Ehrman sketches Jesus's transformation from a human prophet to the Son of God exalted to divine status at his resurrection. Only when some of Jesus's followers had visions of him after his death - alive again - did anyone come to think that he, the prophet from Galilee, had become God.

What disappointed you about How Jesus Became God?

The author picks and chooses what supports his atheism and agnosticism so much the title is not examined. He should write a book on suicide.

What was most disappointing about Bart D. Ehrman’s story?

    There was no story.

How could the performance have been better?

This author comes acorsss better when he narrates or speaks, The narrator is a speed reader who took an Evelyn Wood course.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The author classifies us as post enlighenment.

  • Our America: A Hispanic History of the United States

An eminent scholar finds a new American history in the Hispanic past of our diverse nation. The United States is still typically conceived of as an offshoot of England, with our history unfolding east to west beginning with the first English settlers in Jamestown. This view overlooks the significance of America's Hispanic past. With the profile of the United States increasingly Hispanic, the importance of recovering the Hispanic dimension to our national story has never been greater. This absorbing narrative begins with the explorers and conquistadores who planted Spain's first colonies in Puerto Rico, Florida, and the Southwest.

Would you try another book from Felipe Fernández-Armesto and/or David DeSantos?

No this is not a book but a mess. A nightmare of sentences or disjointed thoughts that that the author says began in his head. Who would say something like that. There is no outline, no story, no reference of order. It could be an attempt at how not to write. Save your money.

What do you think your next listen will be?

History of Spain by Walt Disney.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of David DeSantos?

The narrator reads as if he hates the USA and we should speak Ute.

What character would you cut from Our America?

A character would be a good idea, he uses names but not enough information is given to have a character.

    Any additional comments?

I heard the author speak on CPAN Book TV and thought I would give it a try even though I could bare understand him and he appeared insane. My mistake.

The Chopra brothers were among the most eager and ambitious of the new generation. In the 1970s, they each emigrated to the United States to make a new life. Both faced tough obstacles: while Deepak encountered resistance from Western-trained doctors over what he called the mind-body connection, Sanjiv struggled to reconcile the beliefs of his birthplace with those of his new home. Eventually, each brother became convinced that America was the right place to build a life, and the Chopras went on to great achievements.

The daughter of medical missionaries, Elaine Neil Orr was born in Nigeria in 1954, in the midst of the national movement that would lead to independence from Great Britain. But as she tells it in her captivating memoir, Orr did not grow up feeling American, but rather identified with Nigerian culture. Orr came back to America to attend high school, feeling the loss of Nigeria keenly. It was only in her forties, in the crisis of kidney failure, that she began to recover her African life.

What did you like best about Gods of Noonday? What did you like least?

The author;s discussion and relation of Southern Baptist"s is mostly accurate. She leaves a lot out about the behavior of Nigerians and the nature of diabetes spending most of time in an idylic reminiscence of stories living in the past. The life of illness she lived leaves too much out about the politics of getting a multiple transplant. Her medical information is too but extremely brief.Someone is left out of the story. There is too much missing about how she lives now. It is definitely not a "Poisonwood Bible" comparison..

Would you recommend Gods of Noonday to your friends? Why or why not?

No there is not enough realistic detail to be helpful too dreamy.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    Yes the narrator was ok.

What else would you have wanted to know about Elaine Neil Orr’s life?

The truth about what happened. Such as sources for the causes of diabetes and then the causes of kidnet. They are not scientific and if she decided to use them why and when. I have had Type 1 DM 42 years.

    Any additional comments?

If you don't have diabetes or are not a Baptist or a recovering Baptist esoecialy privileged Baptist you won't make it though the book.l

What disappointed you about A Case of Redemption?

The story is ugly and an obvious attempt to be ugly and in your face. The dumbing down of American literature has arrived with this piece. It is unfit to read.

What could Adam Mitzner have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Hired Bill Cosby as an editor.

How could the performance have been better?

It taught me who to avoid as an author.

Princeton, New Jersey, at the turn of the 20th century: a tranquil place to raise a family, a genteel town for genteel souls. But something dark and dangerous lurks at the edges of the town, corrupting and infecting its residents. Vampires and ghosts haunt the dreams of the innocent. A powerful curse besets the elite families of Princeton; their daughters begin disappearing. A young bride on the verge of the altar is seduced and abducted by a dangerously compelling man - a shape-shifting, vaguely European prince who might just be the devil.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I have read the bio of Wilson and William James and the beginning is very interesting. Then you will need tooth picks which the author tells you about puss or Puss. You will get sick of puss. Then wear the seat belt so you can finish the book.

What could Joyce Carol Oates have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Puss

Too much puss and snuff and shouldn't the murder be more central than Wilson, Princeton and the Nassau Club?
