"Great Sequel minus the gay relationship."
I had this book on pre-order on Amazon but somehow I could listen to it on Audible before it was released. Sweet! Anyways it was a very enjoyable sequel. I enjoyed the equal mix of action and love story. June is a level-headed, intelligent girl who is easy to cheer for. Day is like a dystopian Robin Hood. The thing that irritated me about the book was that Marie Lu chose to add a gay side story in. I was very disappointed by that decision. Thats why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I dont agree with add that into YA fiction and in no way enhanced the story. I hope she gets more negative responses for that decision and chooses to leave it out of the third book which I look forward to reading.
"Maybe if you are a Harry Potter fan?"
I got of my typical genre for this one. I typically stick to dystopian. This reminded me of what I would expect listening to a Harry Potter audio. The voice was at time awful. Her "child" voice was like nails on a chalkboard. I'm sure its hard to do several voices of mythical creatures but it was just annoying to me. The book was mediocre. I finished it because I paid for it but I wouldnt recommend it, Maybe reading it instead of listening to it would be better.
"It was just OK for me"
I felt from the beginning I was thrown in not really understanding several things. It was like the author created a word but forgot to describe the things in it properly
I welcomed it? I usually dread an ending because it means the end of a good book. This one I was ready for it to be over. I guess I never felt overly connected with the characters.
Fitting for the story
The twist didnt feel very surprising, the characters werent engaging. It was compared to Divergent in another review which is why I picked it. I didnt see any simulations. Its not worth an audible credit. Maybe if you can get it for a few bucks on kindle.
"Great easy listen. If you like Art especially"
I really enjoyed listening to this book. I love that it was read by 3 different readers. I would prefer that over a guy imitating a girls voice and sounding like Mrs. Doubtfire. Poets voice is my favorite. It was so smooth. I almost wish his voice was Shadow. There were times I wasnt sure that it sounded like an Aussie accent but its probably just me. Maybe I dont realy know what an Australian accent sounds like outside of Crocodile Dundee. The book was a great easy listen. The descriptions of glass blowing and the descriptions of the graffiti were interesting. I love the characters and their perception of each situation. Good read.
"Team Darkling"
I really enjoyed this book. I'm actually listening to it a second time. The reader does a wonderful job with the voices and accents. Leigh Bardugo is amazing. I cant wait for the next in the series. I love the Darkling. He is the ultimate bad boy. It makes for an interesting love triangle. All the characters are interesting. I love the description of the lavish parties at the castle. It was a book I thought about after finishing it which is always a good sign.
"Lukewarm"
I read book one a while ago and just felt lukewarm about it. There was nothing that I couldnt stand. The realms were interesting and some of the ideas but the story never had me sucked in so much that I "couldnt put it down". I feel the same way about book 2. Overall listening while driving was enough to entertain me but it wasnt something that I was dying to get back to every time I was in the vehicle. I wouldnt say dont read it but I would say dont expect a riveting story. Its a good in-between book.
"I'm hooked"
I really enjoyed listening to this book. It was recommended to me since I love Divergent. It said the two were alike. I see some similarities. Sometimes I got annoyed at the impulsiveness of Glory. Its played off like she is protecting her brother but really it just seems stupid and irresponsible. Not a typical response. I do love the way the bad boy was portrayed he kept me hooked. It seems they are getting more popular (Divergent, Shadow & Bone, Shatter Me). That appeals more to me than the perfect good boy lead male. I will be looking forward to the next book in the Dust Series.
"Two different Authors?"
The book in the beginning didnt feel like the same book at the end. Not because it had evolved but because it just went in a totally weird direction. Thinking back on the entire book it felt like such a long book and not in a good way. I did enjoy the correlation {I believe} between Monsanto (the agriculture business in the United States) and GenTech. Thats something that could very well happen and its worth writing and reading about. The other aspects of the story didnt entertain me. I will not be reading the next book.
"Wasnt sure at first but got into it"
I would recommend this to a friend who was interested in dystopian and enjoyed a book that deals with some physiological issues. In some ways it reminded me of Divergent in that way.
The moment that stands out the most is when she says "I'm not insane" 250 times. I hate that that moment stands out the most, it was so annoying listening to it in audio format.
I'm not a huge fan. She does a great guys deep voice but her kid voices are like nails on a chalkboard. It was worse in "Matched". I was disappointed when I realized she was going to be the reader but I'm getting use to her.
This book started out a little slow and depressing. I wasnt sure what to expect. Then towards the end it really started getting me involved. Then reading the middle book that is from Warners perspective made me really get into it and almost makes me want to go back and listen to book 1 again.
"Awesome follow up to my favorite book!"
Insurgent is in my top 5 favorite books.
The most memorable moment was Tris beating the simulation when they are tricking her into thinking she is sneaking out of the compound with Four
Her voice isnt what I picture for Tris but her voice did convey the proper emotion when being open with Four
The entire relationship between tris & four is so convincing.
Divergent will always be my favorite and I wasnt sure how I could like a second book after Dauntless was no longer but it was awesome! I cant wait for book 3
