"Very interesting."
This is the type of book that deals with an interesting subject but avoids the mind numbing bibliographies. The author stays on topic and avoids sensless deviations into the personal lives of everybody and their mother who was ever involved in the topic.
My only complaint is that it was so interesting that I could not stop listening and finished it quickly.
"Not very inspiring."
Not much to be done sadly.
Couldn't get through a quarter of the book.
I would like the reader to have seemed engaged. Like HE had a message to convey to the world and not just reading to a class who is asleep.
No. It was written in a difficult to follow style that reminds me of a sermon made by a detached religious authority. Not made for interaction or inspiring thought. Just a dull monolog written in a religious style to sound authentic and read by a disinterested person who injected some inflection to the language, but it all was flat anyway. It was as though a sunday school teacher was reading a doctorial dissertation without really understanding it. It seemed like it was written to sound like an extension to a KJV Bible and not for the layman. Drove me nuts and could not listen long even though I am VERY interested in subject matter.
This was my most disappointing purchase in this subject catagory. I like books that are written by those who really understand people as well as the subject matter. Authors that really want to get a message across as opposed to just becoming published. AND... readers who participate in the project.
"Where's the beef?"
The narrator is good.
Reduced the biographical information about everone in the book. Especially the pointless trivia associated with relatives, houses, cars, boats, roads, pets, etc etc. A concise bio of each of the major players would have been enough to give a background. I am a quarter of the way through the book and have not heard anything significant on the subject matter as of yet. I keep skipping chapters to keep from falling asleep. Too many authors fluff out there books with these boring and irrelevant facts all intermingled with the limited subject matter. I am usually asleep when what few informative paragraphs are read.
Makes me feel like something about this purchase had some value.
Everyone under the sun in every country of the world. AND their mothers!
Classify it as a biography. Or biographies.
"Eye opener on the unthinkable."
It is possible that the events in this book could happen. How probable is anyones guess. But if an EMP attack ever did occur, this is most likely an example of what would unfold in our advanced, but fragile economic system. A system where the local farms are gone, computers are components of virtually every appliance, and where we all live in the blacktopped electrical/electronic social networked biosphere of today. Don't even think of driving your BMW from the burbs to MY neck of the woods when this were to happen. Read it to see what YOUR fate would be!
But seriously, it was an informative thought provoking read that illustrates just how vunerable we really have become under advanced technology. If we ever get into another desperate world war such as WWI and II, this would be a highly probable event for one side or the other if not both. High altitude EMP bursts over enemy territories have been in the military doctrine of all nuclear powers since the 50's when we were much less dependant on the technology of today.
"Interesting overview of US system."
I found this title to be an interesting overview of the US political systems operations over the past 200 years or so. I did not find much of the content revelationary, but its a great single source of information of most of this counties major historical events in the international arena. Gives perspective around the many events that were taugnt in abstract when I was in school. Maybe this should have been my textbook instead! I would have seen the forest instead of the trees.
"Simply a classic. Much better audio this time."
A couple of years ago, I purchased this title and really struggled with the quality of the audio. This newer edition is much better. As for the content, it is what it is. A classic that is the foundations to our current understanding of economics. It has great historical value but is not really an easy read. For me, its just something I had to get being an avid student in economics. I won't be giving a review of the subject matter since it is what it is and many have done much better that i could ever do. Just wanted to say this version has great audio!
"Lost interest fast."
This audio book started out OK, but I lost interest in it quickly. Cannot really say why other than it did not seem realistic enough to take too seriously. Sorry I can't give more substance to my feedback but maybe that reflects the content of the material.
"Intense, requires focus."
If I can manage to concentrate when listening to the content of this book, it is very enliightning. It is not a good title for the daily commute however. If I cannot follow along with each and every sentance, like when a car cuts me off and I suffer a Terrets siezure, I find that I am hopelessly lost and have to start the section over.
If I can manage to follow along, I think its great. IF...that is.
"Beware! Spiritual War Zone."
Always the skeptic, I bought this title with a high level of suspicion as to author???s true motives. Many writers are selling an idea or gimmick that they know will produce sales for their books regardless of their true beliefs. With this in mind, I took on the program that the book instructs on spiritual warfare to a level that I thought would be somewhat easy to succeed at and be rewarding. This was my initial intention and did not do it just for fun. I am not a fanatic or mystic, but a well meaning believer wanting to do battle for good.
What a rookie I turned out to be.
For me, the program outlined in this book turned out to be very real. I cannot go into the details of what is occurring in my own struggle. I need to urgently stress that spiritual warfare is NOT to be taken lightly! This book is NOT for entertainment and may lead some to venture in over their heads. The opposition is an incredibly capable combatant and you may not always win in the engagement. Keep in mind that in a war some will always perish for the good of the army as a whole. Do YOU have what it takes?
This book can help but is only a guide.
This title does not give any mystical powers, immunity, wealth, success in business, magic mantras, or absolute safety! It is a hard core field guide on war fighting as explained in the Bible itself. This book is fundamentally sound and not just a "new" system invented by the author. It???s the real deal. A militaristic mindset for a very real war.
If you are a true believer and want to risk all for the Kingdom of God then buy this book (after a serious prayer) and apply it to your life. If you are not a believer, do whatever you want as I am not sure what the pros and cons could be.
See you in the trenches!
"Refreshing, Simple, Fun!"
As an avid reader of almost all books dealing with economics over many years, I find this one to be the most refreshing reads in a long time. It is simple and fun to read. Not as detailed as an Economy for Dummies type book, but does manage to give a broad overview of how we got to where we are today in the economic landscape. There was nothing new for me in any of the chapters, but I still enjoyed the book for its "look at the forest, not just the trees" presentation. After years of studying the "trees", I just found this to be an entertaining recap of everything I already learned and helps me explain these things to others a little more effectively. This may be one of the best introductionary books for beginners of serious economic studies.
Its the "Pilgrims Progress" of Economics. Just a fun read on the "Dismal Science" that may actually leave you with a better understanding of our current situation than some of the current leaders in the field today.
