The build-up of the story is great, but the end is rather disappointing. I was waiting for a twist in the tale, which never came, and it ended rather abruptly.
Having said that - I was glued to my iPod throughout the story. Bernadette Dunne's narration is wonderful. She does not allow your attention to wander. She has different voices for all the characters and she doesn't lose them. Even the men sound like men.
Well, worth a credit.
Why the writer was allowed to read his own book is beyond me. He rambles on about what - I'm not sure. Maybe if a professional read it, it would have made sense or sounded interesting.
This is the second book I couldn't finish and have now deleted it. Wish I could get my credit back.
I've been a big fan of Kellerman's for a while and have read all of his books except this one, which is the first in the series about Alex and Milo. This is not his best work, but very entertaining - once you get over the idea that an ordinary psychologist can suddenly turn into a ruthless and tough PI (with more luck than anyone could hope for). Although the story deals with gruesome subject matter, I really enjoyed the story.
The narrator must be one of the best I’ve heard thus far and does an excellent job.
Definitely worth a credit if you are not too sensitive.
I thought this would be a very interesting book. I am now halfway with the book, but if you should ask me what I've learnt thus far (or even heard thus far), I have no idea. It could be because of the narrator which is COMPLETELY wrong for the book and the subject matter.
Merilyn Harris would be great for a mystery novel a la Ruth Rendell or something like Murder She Wrote, but NOT for this. She reads it like it's a mystery and I just can't take her seriously. I have a good mind and go onto my next book - and I don't think I'd even wonder what the rest of the book is about.
Wow! Why haven't I heard about Peter Clines before? This book is brilliantly written. The suspense never lets up, the story is fast-paced and talk about twists!
As for the narrator... I so wish he could read all the books on Audible. I have stopped listening to books before because of the narrator, but Ray Porter reads like it’s his story that he’s telling and he’s very passionate about it. Without a doubt the best narrator I have heard in the seven years I have been with Audible.
JD Robb can write, so I can't understand why she wants to use "gimmicks" (to attract more readers?) The constant sex scenes between Eve and Rourke is totally unmotivated and frankly wastes time we could have heard more about the case - which is why I was listening to the book in the first place.
Maybe she should write her own Fifty Shades to get it out of her system and I'll be the first to buy that book.
Also, I'd like to know why Susan Ericksen makes Eve sound so aggressive and constantly irritated? A woman can be strong without being full of issues - which is the way she sounds.
The story is solid and interesting.
The information is interesting, but Jon Ronson should have left the reading to an expert. He makes it very difficult to listen to the book.
Kept me glued to my seat. The story moves at a steady pace and never becomes predictable.
Lisa is passionate about the topic and it shows. It's wonderful to hear an intelligent woman talk about a very important issue. It's sad how the world has been dumbed down and how celeb gossip is the most important issue in most women's lives.
This is a woman after my own heart. I'm definitely giving this to my teenaged daughter to listen to.
Every woman should read this book in order to understand the men in her life. I can't agree more with everything John says. I can see the difference between my 16 year old son and my husband and my heart weeps for my husband who has lost his wild heart, like men are trained to do.
I am definitely giving him the book to listen to now.
I thought it was John Eldredge himself reading the book because he sounds so understanding and sympathetic.
This is the first time I have ever given a book 5 stars, as it's the first book that's worth it. I'm on to Captivating now.
