"Very Disappointing! Unlikable Characters!"
This was my first David Baldacci book, and will likely be my last! I didn't like the tone of the book or any of the characters.
I would have liked the book better had it had some likable characters. The hateful & sarcastic attitude of all the characters permeated the book. It was ridiculous, almost to the point of being comical!
I will try to avoid books read by Mr Brick. I think his sarcastic tone in almost every sentence made a bad book even worse.
Listening to this book put me in a bad mood due to the bad attitudes throughout it; and made me angry and sad that I had wasted my time and money on it.
"Bleak Story, But Positive Father-Son Book"
I enjoyed the interaction between the father and son, and their care and respect for each other. I was pleased that the book was only about 7 hours. I enjoyed the anticipation of how the book would end. Also, in my opinion, Tom Stechschulte is one of the best readers on Audible.
Yes, perfect length for a one-sitting listen.
"Painfully Detailed!"
Much, much more detailed than I expected! I was expecting more focus on the Six Day War. This book was more about the history of Israel from 1948 up to the 1967 six-day war. It goes into intricate detail. I finally gave up on the book after 10 hours, and it hadn't even gotten into the 1967 war yet!
I would not recommend this book, because I felt the title was misleading.
"Good start, but then..."
I like reading an action novel without all the typical profanity. The book had a great start, but seemed to get slow and very drawn out, and with too many characters.
Yes.
His voice sometimes sounded a little robotic.
"Juvenile Story...Title s/b "Dying to BE Pleased!""
I purchased this book for my wife and me to listen to on a vacation drive. We were both very disappointed with this book. We were expecting more of a murder mystery, but this book seemed to focus more on an unrealistic "everything woman" (beautiful butler/bodyguard, excellent marksman, martial arts specialist; who does housework, buys groceries, and manages a household), and her lust for pleasure with an unrealistic "everything man" (ex-military doctor, who is now a policeman/investigator with a small town police force). At some point, we asked the question, "Hey, did these people forget there was a murder that happened?" Judging from the reviews (I have seen only one other negative review), this book obviously has a lot of appeal to a certain segment of readers. At the risk of coming across as sexist, I will say that my guess is that this book would be more liked by female readers who possibly lack sexual passion in their lives; or by male readers who dream of having a Victoria's Secret model who does his housework in lingerie, goes to the gun range or fishing with him, and allows him to handcuff her and have his way with her whenever he wants.
Focus on and develop the murder mystery story-line more... Be less juvenile sounding in the love (lust) scenes. This book sounded like it was written by a freshman in college!
I don't recall hearing any other Susan Ericksen narrations. With this book, she did a good job, albeit with bad material.
This is my first and last Linda Howard book.
"Milton Friedman on Steroids!"
I would definitely listen to this book, if I had it to do over again. It would probably be good to re-listen to it every couple of years, because the issues raised in this book should be considered, even if you don't agree with everything it says. I wish it were required reading in our schools or colleges, and for members of congress and the President!
Over and over, Stossel raises the point that "intuition says ___________, but reality has shown ___________." This book forces the reader to consider downstream impacts and unintended consequences of governmental controls on society and individuals' personal lives.
A tidbit that stood out most for me was Stossel's statement that 50% of home burglaries in UK and Canada occur when someone is home, verses only 12% in the US.
My son (a senior in college), was the one who suggested this book to me. He told me this book was "Milton Friedman on Steroids," so I have to give him credit for my review headline. I totally agree! This book just makes a lot of sense.
"Excellent Story Teller!"
Interesting... Insightful... Enlightening!
Bobby Kennedy is likely my favorite character because he seemed to be a good person, faithful to his family, and a great counselor to his brother. I don't think JFK would have had the successes he did without RFK.
Bill O'Reilly does a superb job telling a story of an event that is already well documented. I enjoyed a fresh narrative of the story, and the personal traits of the characters that he brought out. He did a great job making me feel like a part of the story.
"Misleading Title!"
This would be a good book for someone who is interested in an autobiography of a Christian woman doctor. The title is very misleading, with only a few pages about the author's brief experience in the afterlife.
I don't know if Ms Neal was at fault, or if it was her publisher, who came up with the misleading title and book description. The book would have been more enjoyable if it had been more about the afterlife.
I am a Christian and believe in the afterlife, and I do not doubt what the author experienced... I'm just disappointed that this book was more about the life of the author, with only about 5-10 minutes about the afterlife. Beware, the book title and publisher summary are misleading!
"One of My Favorite Books Ever!"
I love time-travel books, and this was one of the most enjoyable I have ever read. It did a great job of intertwining the two different time periods, slowly revealing the time-traveler's purpose and the period he came from. It was also neat how the author included significant characters from world history, and how a statement made to one of the historical characters by the time-traveler wound up changing world history.
I liked how the main character of the book was strong and had a great relationship with her family through so much adversity, and how she stood up to evil at a great cost. I also liked how the author incorporated a bit of humor in the book from time to time.
Mr Lane did a masterful job! I will definitely look for more narrations from him.
"Disappointed After First Reading Twelfth Imam"
After having first read The Twelfth Imam and The Teheran Initiative (which I thought were outstanding books), I felt the The Last Jihad, both the writing and the performance, were very amateurish. I was amazed at how improved Rosenberg apparently was by The Twelfth Imam.
Yes, I would listen to Rosenberg again, but only the books written after The Twelfth Imam.
I would prefer not to listen to Dick Hill as a reader. I did not like his voice or performance.
This book was a great disappointment to me. It almost seemed like it was written by someone in high school.
Politically, I am conservative, and I was greatly disappointed in this book. I saw on someone's review that this book is just right wing propaganda. I don't think so, but I think the book is how the left perceives the right to be.
