So slow - painful - characters are not interesting and the author trys to make it more suspensful than it is.
I'm going back to true crime
I was so sad I wasted a credit on this, but didn't want to waste my money so I listened to the whole thing
If you can allow yourself to briefly believe in magical things like books appearing to a person who needs them. A sweater that truly is lucky and being able to feel when someone is near, you will enjoy this book. My only negative is that the ending felt really rushed.
I haven't finished the book, I can't its too awful. I am a few chapters into the second half, because of the promises of it getting better but its not. I have listed to hours of a story that I can sum up quickly. A group of people at a party were taken hostage by some rebels who wanted to kidnap the country's president. That's it - really - days and days of them doing nothing while they are hostages.
So glad I found a beachy fun novel that's not xxrated 20 something romance. Perfect for the over 40 set.
I love Jenna Lamia as a narrator and was thrilled to see a new book by Beth Hoffman. If you loved, The Help, Saving CeCe Honeycutt, You will also love this book
I haven't gotten past the first three chapters. Her nasal tone whining about her middle class childhood in an upper class neighborhood is driving me nuts.
I loved it. Bill Bryson has an excellent storytelling style. He is so descriptive I felt like I was on the trail with him (I should mention I enjoy hiking and aspire to thru-hike the trail someday - I have not enjoyed other Bryson books nearly as much when I didn't relate to the story)
When his buddy throws all their food out the first day
He's telling his own story with his own dry sense of humor
I love the period and the view point of the slaves
Kitchen house - similar time period
Wasn't as compelling as some, but still an excellent read
The author is so descriptive of the places and people that I immediately went out to see if this travel group still exists and if I could too go visit the orphanage.
I think the book especially pulled at my heartstrings knowing it is a true story. Unlike many other reviewers I was completely surprised by the ending.
