Nick Heller is tough, smart, and stubborn. And in his line of work, it's essential. Trained in the Special Forces, Nick is a high-powered intelligence investigator - exposing secrets that powerful people would rather keep hidden. He's a guy you don't want to mess with. He's also the man you call when you need a problem fixed. Desperate, with nowhere else to run, Nick's nephew, Gabe makes that call one night.

The narrator isn't so bad until he does the teenage boy. That nasal thing is annoying. Otherwise it's a great story, although it does take a few stretches of the imagination, but that's what fiction is all about. I would recommend this book.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I know King goes into character details. I'm use to that. What I'm not sue to is 30 hours of character details when NOTHING happens. 95% of this book is nothing but dribble on and on about the characters.

Has The Stand turned you off from other books in this genre?

King is one of a kind. Not sure of others that would even come close. Some times that's a good thing, sometimes that's a bad (like in this case).

What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?

    He wasn't bad at all.

What character would you cut from The Stand?

Which of the 50 characters that he goes into excruciating detail? I couldn't even tell you. Couldn't keep them all straight.

    Any additional comments?

I know people love this book, but I don't get it. I should have just rented the movie.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Where does 11-22-63 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Although I thought Jake was a gigantic wussie sometimes, the book was fantastic. I'm usually hesitant about buying King books because he goes into so much detail (30 hours) but this book flew by.

What was one of the most memorable moments of 11-22-63?

Oswald and George Meet in building

    Any additional comments?

    Really spurs your imagination.

Charlie and Oliver Caruso are brothers who work at Greene & Greene, a private bank so exclusive you need two million dollars just to be a client. But when the door of success slams in their faces, they're faced with an offer they can't refuse: three million dollars in an abandoned account. No one knows it exists, and even better, it doesn't belong to anyone.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when--or if--it will go away.

Been a LONG time since read a King book and forgot how indepth he goes into character development. I know these characters so well I feel like I should send them Christmas cards. That development leads to the length of the book.

The story is unique and keeps you tuned in. I drove around the block to keep listening. There were times were I'd get so angry at the characters, which I guess is a good sign.

The narrator really is weak and at first I almost stopped listening to it just because of it. But after awhile you get too involved in the book to really pay attention. Highly recommended.

When Don't Know Much About History first appeared, it created a sensation. With humor, great stories, and a trademark conversational style, the audiobook brought Americans a fresh new take on history. Davis proved that Americans don't hate history - they just hate the dull textbook version they were force-fed in school.
