I so enjoyed all the previous Odd Thomas books, so I was happy to download this one, but I was actually not really thrilled with this story. I found it predictable, and not very involving.
This was my second Liane Moriarty novel, having just finished Big Little Lies last week. I loved the thoughtfulness it presented to my own life, thinking back, wondering if I had regrets. It brought to mind a quote of, I think CS Lewis, something to the effect that even though nothing is different day after day, that after years gone by, you have a totally different life. Such a great story, great characters, and a superb narration. I am off to find another by this author.
So entertaining to see this story evolve through so many years, and watch some characters develop and get old, as others are shown through their offspring. The rawness of racial problems, as they get better through the years, but still are extremely evident was insightful. When certain characters died, I truly missed them, and felt comfort in following their children. Great book and very entertaining narration.
I have loved the Odd Thomas books in the past, but this one just bored me. I couldn't finish it. There were just tooooo many asides to the past, to Stormy and to things that had already happened. I didn't think that so much time should have been spent on it, because it left me saying, "get on with it". My other half, however, really liked it, so perhaps I am just impatient.
This story has a bit of everything; scandal. intrigue, old world charm, glitzy old Hollywood. I adored the story, and it made me feel hopeful and nostalgic. Great read.
The Orphan Train tears at your heart, while you are fascinated at the same time. Very believable well rounded characters, you feel sympathy for the terror it must have been to be in their shoes.
While we have all got some knowledge of the Manson murders, this book gave all the background to how everything came together, and I was fascinated.
Enticing story spanning 3 generations, cleverly thought out, and gripping. Feeling the stories coming closer to linking made it hard to stop listening. Great character development.
I listen to a lot of Stephen King, and have read a lot of his works also. This story was really good, with very well rounded characters, a gripping plot and unlikely but very believable character relationships. I throughly enjoyed it, and hope these characters may visit again in another novel. King is always reinventing his style in the recent past, and it brings much enjoyment to me!!!
This story takes us through growing pains of a child that most of us cannot imagine, embedded with risk taking and intrigue that while grand, is most believable. I loved all the characters, they are rich, extremely varied and yet fit into this puzzle very well. I will miss the characters that I have come to know. The narration is beyond great. Such and enjoyable story!
