while the story was a little interesting, I just felt that it was too unbelievable. The things that Bernadette gets herself into, almost serendipitously, were just too over the top. It starts out well, but then just leaves you thinking, no freaking way.
I have loved the Odd Thomas books in the past, but this one just bored me. I couldn't finish it. There were just tooooo many asides to the past, to Stormy and to things that had already happened. I didn't think that so much time should have been spent on it, because it left me saying, "get on with it". My other half, however, really liked it, so perhaps I am just impatient.
This story has a bit of everything; scandal. intrigue, old world charm, glitzy old Hollywood. I adored the story, and it made me feel hopeful and nostalgic. Great read.
The Orphan Train tears at your heart, while you are fascinated at the same time. Very believable well rounded characters, you feel sympathy for the terror it must have been to be in their shoes.
While we have all got some knowledge of the Manson murders, this book gave all the background to how everything came together, and I was fascinated.
Enticing story spanning 3 generations, cleverly thought out, and gripping. Feeling the stories coming closer to linking made it hard to stop listening. Great character development.
I listen to a lot of Stephen King, and have read a lot of his works also. This story was really good, with very well rounded characters, a gripping plot and unlikely but very believable character relationships. I throughly enjoyed it, and hope these characters may visit again in another novel. King is always reinventing his style in the recent past, and it brings much enjoyment to me!!!
This story takes us through growing pains of a child that most of us cannot imagine, embedded with risk taking and intrigue that while grand, is most believable. I loved all the characters, they are rich, extremely varied and yet fit into this puzzle very well. I will miss the characters that I have come to know. The narration is beyond great. Such and enjoyable story!
I so enjoyed all the previous Odd Thomas books, so I was happy to download this one, but I was actually not really thrilled with this story. I found it predictable, and not very involving.
This book was such a gratifying story to listen too. My mother was a child while the war went on around her in Hamburg, Germany, and so I couldn't help but picture her while listening day after day. The story is sweet, scary, sassy, touching and takes us back to a time when the most atrocious happenings were going on, while naiveté and innocence of children was still the norm. I loved the characters and I cannot praise the narrator enough, for bringing them all to life within my mind. It is a story I am sure to read again someday, and one that I shall not soon forget. I had a great time.
