Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

Enjoyable weekend read. Some concepts were a little over the top, but you get caught up in the story. Not Jennifer Crusie's best work, but not bad either.

I have really enjoyed SEP books, but this one let me down. Full of weak female characters that need to get a clue. Depressing relationships filled with constant loss, this much tragedy in one book is not believeable. I tried, but couldn't finish it.......

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.

Although it begins a little slowly, staying with this book is well worth the effort. I enjoyed the time that is spent developing the characters and the different feel that is developed with each location in the work. I am excited for the second book!

The historic hotel in Boonsboro has endured war and peace, the changing of hands, and even rumored hauntings. Now it’s getting a major face-lift from the Montgomery brothers and their eccentric mother. As the architect in the family, Beckett’s social life consists mostly of talking shop over pizza and beer. But there’s another project he’s got his eye on: the girl he’s been waiting to kiss since he was sixteen.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. If you are a Nora Roberts fan you will too. It was a bit slow in places, but not for very long. The set up for the next books in the series are obvious, but I am looking forward to reading them. I like the family dynamic between the brothers and their mom, and the small town setting.
