Ever since I was a child, I've been comforted by spoken word and stories . I love Simon Vance's narratives, Anthony Bourdain's humour.

From village feasts and rustic tavernas to ancient piazzas and moonlit balconies, the smells, tastes, sounds, and soul of Umbria come alive in Marlena de Blasi's evocative memoir. By turns romantic and sensual, joyous and celebratory, touching and humorous, Marlena de Blasi's account of moving with her husband, Fernando, to Orvieto, the largest city in Italy's Umbria, will appeal to anyone who delights in travel and shares the fantasy of beginning a new life in a very different place.

I love Italy, Italians, Italian food, the language. I wanted and started to enjoy this book but the narrator's voice became more monotonous every time I restarted the listen. Stick to Lilly Prior's La Cucina for a fabulous Italian story, and wonderful narration, or Peter Mayle's Provence if you want to stay awake, and laugh.

Edgar Award nominee Robert Crais’ L.A. Requiem is a gritty, harrowing look into the minds of a serial killer and the men determined to stop him. Elvis Cole and former cop Joe Pike have been partners in a detective agency for 12 years. After an ex-girlfriend of Pike’s disappears, the girl’s father asks them to help the police with the search. When the missing persons case turns into a hunt for a killer who has been stalking victims in Los Angeles, Cole and Pike find themselves battling both a hostile police department and a madman.

I am brand new to this series and to be frank, picked this one bcause it was the longest!
I can't remember when I have been so interested in a story. The narrator is excellent, and has a variety of different vocal styles to keep things interesting. I loved the character development. The only thing I gotta say...a Puerto Rican accent is NOT like a Mexcian American one. But that's a small indiscretion. Thanks ... I will be picking up some more Joe Pike and company stories.

This book is about our new relationships. A new and surprising world is emerging that requires each of us to explore the sources of our love and cultivate them and the inner sources of all that prevents us from loving (our fears) and heal them. Our evolution has taken a new path, and our relationships are changing in unexpected and dramatic ways.

This book is an amazing look at co creation, and how the loving and fearful parts of our personality affect our actions, worldview, and ultimately, Authentic Power.
I also heard about becoming Multi-Sensory as opposed to 5 Sensory individual, something I've also heard from Sonia Chouquette. The book has given me a whole new paradigm for my successful field in real estate, giving me an opportunity to look deeply at intention, authenticity and again,co-creation with my clients, friends, family, and self. Good one, Gary! Thank you.

Jeanette Winterson’s bold and revelatory novels have established her as a major figure in world literature. This memoir is the chronicle of a life’s work to find happiness. It is a book full of stories: about a girl locked out of her home, sitting on the doorstep all night; about a religious zealot disguised as a mother who has two sets of false teeth and a revolver in the dresser drawer; about growing up in a north England industrial town in the 1960s and 1970s; and about the universe as a cosmic dustbin.

Jeanette's use of humor is her way of handling often difficult situations with grace and candor. I am enjoying her very interesting although sometimes painful story of growing up "odd" in a time when it was considered...uncool. Her autobiographical story of a an adopted girl who was deprived of books and ended up going to Oxford, brilliantly shining, the shine tarnishing, and somehow developing even now, a new patina. Love her conversational style of writing and bright wit.

In the wickedly bittersweet and hilarious You Must Go and Win, the Ukrainian-born musician Alina Simone traces her bizarre journey through the indie rock world, from disastrous Craigslist auditions with sketchy producers to catching fleas in a Williamsburg sublet. But Simone offers more than down-and-out tales of her time as a struggling musician: she has a rapier wit, slashing and burning her way through the absurdities of life, while offering surprising and poignant insights.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I'd recommend this to any one who is young of heart, or could use a good laugh.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the freshness of listening to something say out loud what I would probably be thinking. Her humor is self-deprecating and pointed. I really enjoyed hearing anecdotes about the various cultures, especially the Italians with their 10 cups of black espresso daily while living with Mama until well past the age of 40. Like that.

What about Alina Simone’s performance did you like?

Her voice delivers the story in a natural speaking voice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Wearing Your Cat Like A Hat, and other Ways to Be Stunning.

    Any additional comments?

I think it would make a really funny and interesting movie, with all of the changes in locale, people, and rustic living conditions. Loved it!

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

As a child growing up in a family of cantadoras (keepers of the old stories) Clarissa Pinkola Estes learned first hand how a stroy told at bedtime can soothe away the troubles of the day and prepare the way for another night's dreams to follow. Now a beloved cantadora herself, Estes shares this treasured family tradition with you on Bedtime Stories, her own special collection of tales to relax and ease you to sleep.

I love her work, and looked forward to more of Dr.Estes spoken word since buying Women Who Run With The Wolves many years ago. I have The Beginners Dream Interpretation and one or two others.

This was a bit of rehash for me. Her gorgeous mellifluous voice felt very precious towards the ends...a bit contrived and I lost interest.

I was thoroughly enchanted and amazed at this book. Charmingly told story that combines the English expatriates' observations on their move to the countryside, and how they became one of the French locals one funny mishap at a time. I've heard it several times, and I totally recommend it.
