Raised in a Pennsylvania Amish community, young mother Rachel Yoder has led a simple life within her close-knit family. Widowed three years ago, she has moved back in with her parents, attempting to raise her daughter, Katie, without further emotional upheaval. Meanwhile, four hours and a whole world away in New York City, Ellie Lawrence is laser-focused on a high-powered public relations career, with too little time for her family, her friends, or even her boyfriend.

    Story

I was intrigued by the concept of this book, however I feel that the author missed many opportunities to delve into more detail about each of the families' situations. This story could have easily been a 2 or 3 book series, one each for Rachel and Ella's story and then perhaps a final volume that told the story of the extended families meeting. As written, it was difficult to develop a real connection to any character and left me wanting to know more.

He was a man who didn’t deserve a second chance... but he needed one. Emily and her husband, Sandy Portman, seemed to live a gracious if busy life in an old-world, Upper West Side apartment in the famous Dakota building. But one night on the way to meet Emily, Sandy dies in a tragic accident. The funeral isn't even over before Emily learns she is on the verge of being evicted from their apartment. But worse than the possibility of losing her home, Emily is stunned when she discovers that her marriage was made up of lies.

Would you try another book from Linda Francis Lee and/or Dan John Miller and Cassandra Campbell ?

I purchased this book because I enjoyed Lee's "Devil in the Junior League". This book just isn't quite the same. The notion that a man reappeared in a dog's body after his death is just a little too much. The marathon sub-plot was also a bit far-fetched. For these reasons, I would be very skeptical about purchasing another book from this author. However, I adored the narrators! I would definitely listen to more of their work.

    Any additional comments?

The editing on this version needs a little work. In the second half, there are many times where the editing failed to clean up the narrator's reading of the same line twice in a row.

When college student Olivia Townsend returned home to help her father run his business, she never imagined a complication like Cash and Nash Davenport - twin brothers different in so many ways but with one thing in common: an uncontrollable desire for Olivia. Cash is dangerous, sexy, and bad to the bone - a man whose kisses make Olivia forget she is playing with fire. Nash is successful, reliable, and intensely passionate - and already taken. But all it takes is one soft stroke to make Olivia forget he belongs to someone else. However, Olivia is in for a surprise....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I'm not sure this particular book could earn a 4/5 start rating. I did not enjoy the narrator and the story line was very far-fetched. Some fairly compelling plot twists could have been explored more deeply. Instead, there were some that were glossed over. (Ex. breakup w/ girlfriend)

Would you ever listen to anything by M. Leighton again?

No, I would probably not listen to another M. Leighton book.

    Story

Although I realize this is an abridged version of the story, there are huge sections of the book missing that disrupt continuity. There are also many instances where the narrator stumbles and/or completely repeats a section. Perhaps a result of poor editing, however this should never have passed quality control. This is the first Audible download I've been disappointed with.
