  • 11-22-63: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (30 hrs and 44 mins)
    • By Stephen King
    • Narrated By Craig Wasson

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Kelly says: "I Owe Stephen King An Apology"
    "A great listen."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Loved the very idea of time travel and the possible outcome of meddling with it!
I could not stop listening to this one, lots of twists and turns with a very good but unexpected ending.
    I really enjoyed the book.

  • Swan Song

    • UNABRIDGED (34 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Robert McCammon
    • Narrated By Tom Stechschulte
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Facing down an unprecedented malevolent enemy, the government responds with a nuclear attack. America as it was is gone forever, and now every citizen - from the President of the United States to the homeless on the streets of New York City - will fight for survival. In a wasteland born of rage and fear, populated by monstrous creatures and marauding armies, earth's last survivors have been drawn into the final battle between good and evil, that will decide the fate of humanity.

Amanda says: "Simply an Amazing Story"
    "Missing chapters"
What would have made Swan Song better?

Being able to download all the book?

What was one of the most memorable moments of Swan Song?

Having to skip between the nuclear attack and sometime in the future aftermath because of missing chapters!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Swan Song?

None, I would have made sure all the original chapters were included

    Any additional comments?

Enough said, though if I was somehow able to download all the book I would be grateful!

  • Hell's Corner

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 31 mins)
    • By David Baldacci
    • Narrated By Ron McLarty, Orlagh Cassidy
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

John Carr, aka Oliver Stone-once the most skilled assassin his country ever had-stands in Lafayette Park in front of the White House, perhaps for the last time. The president has personally requested that Stone serve his country again on a high-risk, covert mission. Though he's fought for decades to leave his past career behind, Stone has no choice but to say yes. Then Stone's mission changes drastically before it even begins. It's the night of a state dinner honoring the British prime minister.

Ramon says: "Great story with nice twists"
"A could not take it any longer."

I want my click back! The accents and change of narators were irritating.
Slow and boooring, I had to give up about two thirds the way through,
I don't know or care if the hero made it through.
I am a fan of Baldacci and this is the worst of his books, in my opinion.

  • The White Plague

    • UNABRIDGED (19 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Frank Herbert
    • Narrated By Scott Brick
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A warm day in Dublin, a crowded street corner. Suddenly, a car-bomb explodes, killing and injuring scores of innocent people. From the second-floor window of a building across the street, a visiting American watches, helpless, as his beloved wife and children are sacrificed in the heat and fire of someone else's cause.

DJM says: "Good story once through"

This was one of the most boring books I have listened to. The beginning was pretty fast paced and interesting but the remainder was very tedious with an ending I honestly slept through and had no desire to "rewind" and endure.

Don't waste your book credit on this,

  • Word of Honor

    • UNABRIDGED (28 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Nelson DeMille
    • Narrated By Scott Brick

He is a good man, a brilliant corporate executive, an honest, handsome family man admired by men and desired by women. But a lifetime ago Ben Tyson was a lieutenant in Vietnam. There the men under his command committed a murderous atrocity -- and together swore never to tell the world what they had done. Now the press, army justice, and the events he tried to forget have caught up with Ben Tyson.

Diana says: "Nelson does it again"
    "Excellent as expected."

A very good book spoiled only by the graphic sex scenes, between the main charachter and his wife, which were not at all needed for the plot of the book. The story kept me listening even though the ending was not unexpected.

    I would recommend the book.

  • The Shack

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 31 mins)
    • By Wm. Paul Young
    • Narrated By Roger Mueller

Mackenzie Allen Philips' youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare.

Renato says: "much more than I expected"
    "Soul searching!"

I am not, was! not at all of religion. This book made me hope for "something" after death.
I highly recommend it even as a listener of war and murder novels.

  • Tomorrow, When the War Began: Tomorrow Series #1

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 20 mins)
    • By John Marsden
    • Narrated By Suzi Dougherty

While Ellie and her friends are away in the bush, the world changes. Suddenly they are in the toughest situations humans can confront, facing life and death decisions. They are thrown into a world where they find courage, initiative, spirit and wisdom, or they die.

Bev says: "Listen, you won't be sorry..."
    "Skip the first hour."

Skip the first hour and, yes, the book really jogs along. The main characters are all in their teens but soon become adult. If you like Michael Chrichton and James Patterson I recommend it.
The Aussie accent is fine bearing in mind the location of the plot.

  • Rules of Prey: A Lucas Davenport Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By John Sandford
    • Narrated By Richard Ferrone
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The "maddog" murderer who is terrorizing the Twin Cities is two things: insane and extremely intelligent. He kills for the pleasure of it and thoroughly enjoys placing elaborate obstacles to keep police befuddled. Each clever move he makes is another point of pride. But when the brilliant Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, a dedicated cop and a serial killer's worst nightmare, is brought in to take up the investigation, the maddog suddenly has an adversary worthy of his genius.

D says: "I love this series"
    "A satisfying ending."

A good, fast paced novel. The main character is a modern hero, cool dresser, Porsche, ladies man. The final chapters are very satisfying as he brings the case to a definate conclusion, one we all would like to see more often in real life I am sure. Definately movie material. More please.

  • Adventure Capitalist: The Ultimate Investor's Road Trip

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Jim Rogers
    • Narrated By Paul Boehmer
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

It's the ultimate road trip. Legendary investor Jim Rogers and his fiancee travel to 116 countries in a custom-built, four-wheel-drive, bright yellow Mercedes. Over three years, they make their way through war zones, are guarded by military convoys, observe a 50-million-person pilgrimage, eat disgusting food, put the car on barges for transport between countries, and have their lives threatened at every turn.

    Dan says: "New Perspective"
    "very informative"

A very good listen, I did the whole book in 2 days while driving part of his journey through Saudi Arabia. If he was as accurate about Saudi as he was about the rest of the trip then, for sure, factual. If you are a traveller or one of the increasing number of "expats" I recommend it if only for the familiarity of their experiences.
