Sets us back 50 years. Tell it like it is. Just plain old S&M. It is amazing that the brilliant, beautiful, intelligent, millionaire always seems to find these characters much more interesting that they really are.
This book might have been good if the narrator did not sound like he was 100 years old. It is made worse by the fact that there are so many characters and he sounds the same with each one, and they all have a mouth full of marbles. Danny sounds like she is 100, and frankly sounds like all of the other old men in the book. If I had not just wanted to get through the series I would never have purchase this book. Audible, stop being so cheap and pay some younger people with some talent to change their voice a little. When there are this many characters, you should be able to afford more than one person to read it. My recommendation, read the book, don't listen to it. It is too distracting.
I generaly agree with Oprah's choices but I don't know what happened to this one. I kept reading because I thought it would get better. It never did. An entire family of self-involved weirdos. Who knew! Don't waste your points.
Loved Poisonwood. This one is the slowest, most confused bunch of writing I have ever had the misfortune to listen to. I am so disspointed. I keep falling asleep.
I was disturbed by the character's notion that insurance fraud appeard to be an acceptable way to help a handicapped child. Growing up wtih a friend with OI, it is sad that our society today (I consider the jury guilty as well) would rather accept insurance fraud than ask for financial help. No wonder we have so much moral bankruptcy.
