Definitely worth it if you're a Star Trek fan. It takes place just after Star Trek V (Kirk and Bones escape the Klingon prison planet, the crew show up just to foil the assassination of the Chancellor, etc). It ties much of the political upheaval that must have occurred afterwards into an interesting story. The narrator does a great job of taking you back to the original characters with inflections and pace. Strongly recommend!!! I am stingy with a "5," and this one's a strong B.
I am NOT a zombie book/film/story fan. I do enjoy a good super hero movie, but not normally a book. This trilogy intrigues me, and this is book 1. It's an interesting mix of humanization, Armageddon, unnatural abilities.....weird, but it works for me. The cast does a superb job, and different cast members performing the roles really "tells" the story. Indulge yourself, and give it a shot.

No ray guns in this, but the futuristic (or maybe historic) sci-fi is classy, intriguing, and very, VERY human. You'll love the characters, e intrigued with some of the twists, and stay on the edge of your seat asking, "how...." "when...." "wha...."
If you enjoyed King's "11-22-63," you'll love this just as much. ENJOY !!
I'm not sure why I chose this book, but I'm so happy I did. Not a "perfect fit" for the mystery-thriller genre, it adds in a little fantasy and mysticism. No clear line between black and white, or should I say good and evil. The ending was a bit of a let down, but certainly didn't ruin the experience.
The title of this book intrigued me. It's a collection of interesting information, chemistry lessons, and stories of origin centered around your kitchen - cooking, baking, appliances, etc. It's also written in such a way that you don't have to be a chemist, engineer, or professional chef to understand, yet if you are a chemist, engineer or professional chef, you will not be insulted.
I have used much of the info in this book since reading it. It's enjoyable and practical.
If you're a WWII buff, enjoy spy stories, or just enjoy a good story with romance, intrigue, and adventure, you'll really enjoy this book. The author challenges you to decide if it's true, or even plausible. It certainly seems plausible to me, and I would not be surprised to find out about dozens of other similar stories of WWII.
I'm often looking to expand my experiences. One way I do that is by asking others what they're reading. If the conversation gets going, I ask them about the most intriguing book they've read, a book they'd read again, etc.
The performance is, indeed, excellent. I try to ration out the "5" rating. This book deserves a 5, and while the performance was excellent, the story is OUTSTANDING.
What category is this book? A MYSTERY? Is it SCI-FI? How about FANTASY? This book qualifies for all of those genres, but none of them come close to describing this book, or even putting it in a category.
You cheer for the main character. You are instantly intrigued by each character, no matter when they're introduced, how long they're active, etc. The segue to other stories make you scratch your head, but enhanced the experience of the book, and this book IS AN EXPERIENCE!!
I had read a few Baldacci novels before this. I found them entertaining, but not overly intriguing. I had given up, deciding I just didn't 'get' the angle. An older friend of mine brought up Baldacci in conversation. I explained my experiences. They challenged me to read "The Camel Club." I bartered for him to read one of my favorite books and agreed to give this one a try.
I am SO happy I did. The characters are rich and intriguing. The mystery was elevated, complex, and captivating. Their development was sufficient to get me invested in them, but not over done. I know there's more to each character, and I'm excited about getting to know them.
Not as technical as Clancy, not as mythical as Meltzer, but every bit as entertaining and capturing - ENJOY!!
The title and synopsis did nothing for me, but all the talk and hype encouraged me to give it a try. Let's hear it for peer pressure!!!
This is a riveting story that let's you proceed confidentially, thinking you're on solid ground, then it pulls the carpet from beneath your feet. Characters are likable; even lovable. Characters are hatable; even detestable.
The characters are rich and deep. The story is entertaining...emotional...infuriating!! This is not only a terrific story, but a text book on society's most dangerous pathologies. Make time ... Don't miss this one!
Same stuff, different title. Reacher's about as subtle as an atomic bomb, and the story's as deep as an infant's bath water - to be fair, this one's fairly deep. If you like Reacher books, you'll like this one. If you've never listened to one, but like thrillers and action, give it a shot.
