"Latino literature at its best!"
the collection of short stories can be viewed as an overall story of the narrator in different time periods OR short stories that intertwine with each other in a context of living in a Dominican community. Junot's use of not translating or even italicizing the Spanish words is referenced in the beginning quote from Gustavo Perez Firmat. If you are monolingual and are interested in the US Latino experience, Diaz poignantly gives you an East Coast view. Be sure to have google translator handy if you want to get a better understanding of the Spanish words used in the stories. This is what makes Latino literature unique!!!!
"Cool as Ice"
the narrator was not that great. He tried to sound like a "gangsta". I would have preferred Ice T narrate it himself.
None that I can think of.
His voice just didn't fit the writing of Ice T.
Not really. I don't think it would be worth watching.
I like to listen to the music and/or videos that has been mentioned to enhance the overall theme of the book.
"Flying in Breuerniverse"
Breuer crushes it (a word he uses a lot)!!!! I enjoyed listening to Jim act out the voices of people in the book. Listening to him narrate was like having him in the passenger seat of my car during the long commute. He fiddles with aspect of enlightenment/chance of certain instances in his life that made him think about the beyond the supreme being.
As a comedian his voice is great and would definitely try another book from jimmy breuer.
Whenever I listen to a biography or memoir, I supplement other videos, music to put into perspective what the author or person went through at that moment. However, Breuer being a comedian that he is, used some of the material in the book in previous comedy clubs.
I tried saving the book for my commutes but had to force myself to stop listening at home because then I wouldn't have anything to listen to in the car.
"ultrareader"
pretty darn impressive
overcoming alcoholism and becoming a vegan ultraman.
i listen to books on my 45 minute commute.
it can be too much to listen to his life story in one sitting. i had to go run after hearing him talk about exercising.
he reads slow but you can speed up the reading speed.
"give it away!!"
this was an awesome audiobook that gave an insight to the world that we know of RHCP!!! I felt like part of the band and the imagery was phenomenal. I can visualize the scene where Kiedis is strung out at a cheap hotel and sees a family car filled with RHCP fans....I created a cd of songs that Kiedis mentioned and listened to them.
