Mr. Collins has written a book about the Kennedy assasination that anyone who had to live through those horrible days can read without having their guts torn out.To you who are not old enough to have experianced those times that may not seem like much,: but it is.Those memories hurt, we all want to change what happened and know we never can. After the debacle of the last Kennedy book ( written by a very famous author) in which the whole horror was relived , the events changed, and then changed back so as to render the entire reading experiance a true agony, I thought I could never read another book about those times. BUT, Mr. Collins knows his history, and knows how to write historical fiction so as to enlighten, entertain and preserve the true nature of the times. BRAVO!

Mr. Miller was as good in this book as he was in all the other Heller stories. For me, he is the voice of Nate Heller.

The whole book moved me. Mr Collins did it right.

This book is in the top 10 of my 155 audiobooks.

It is part of a series so one could compare it to the others on audio. But, I like to compare it to other time travel books like All Clear or other sci-fi Books like Hunger Games. This series is very much better than the others. Check out this series, but start with 1632 so you really get to know the situation before you try to skip around. This is a fun way to look at history. And you will probably want to see how it happened in the world we live in. These books are great for high school readers and should be on to curriculum.

My favorite scene was the conclave to discuss the nature of the Up-timers and the world they came from. The questions and topics posed by the priests seem to mirror some of the questions we are pondering today.

Of cource you will want to read it all at once:but you must put it down and attend to the mundane tasks like eating, sleeping, and smelling the roses of our world.

Not your average LA murder

The author likes to use modern invective but once you get over that, this is well worth reading. And, you might learn something about our 50th state that is seldom mentioned. This author puts personalities to the characters from the past, instead of just talking in generalities. The past affects the present and it does so on a personal level. Thanks guy you did a good job . I hpoe to read some more from your chacters.

I would try another book from Anne Perry as she writes well. I just didn't like this one. And, it wasn't bad just uninspiringly blah.

If you like golden age mysteries you love Ngaio Marsh. I think, overall , she is second to Agatha. ALL of her stories are good or very good and she writes with style, charm, and honesty. Her puzzles are never obscure and her criminal's motives are never rediculous. In short, she never cheats. The bonus is that I usually learn something about the place or time in which the book is set. So, read Ngaio Marsh and tell the teacher "its not just a mystery novel , its a learning experiance"

This tells the story of what happened to various people in the month or so after Pearl Harbor. It reads like a naritive of news events but in an interesting and provocative format. It takes the reader to several theaters of war and deffinately gives the essence of what people who were living must have heard and felt. History doesn't get better than that!

The narator give the piece a sence of what those living it heard.

This was a book that I did listen to in one sitting. I couldn't put it down!

Try Professor Weintraub's other war book "The Last Great Victory" If you liked this you'll like that too.

The only people who might enjoy this story are those who haven't read any of the miriad of conspiracy thrillers written in the last 2 decades.

Don't bother

The audio version is better than the print version because the reader pronounces all the place names properly for you. Now you can read other books in the series without fretting over some very foreign names.

Compare this book to most other time travel books and be happy because there are no whinning travelers worried about how blowing their nose might affect the world they came from. What a relief!

This reader is just great.

Cromwell was the most memorable character. I never thought of him in quite that way.

I loved the "tombstone" put on the mass grave of the murderous soldiers from the farmhouse skirmish.

This book made me laugh, cry, and made me, want to read all of the books in the series, which I am doing now.

I truly wish Mr. Guidall would get busy and record all of the books.

I would recommend the entire series of Nate Heller books to anyone. These are the most engrossing Mystorical dramas I have ever read. The mysteries are both intricate and fairly presented. The historical characters are enlivened. I can't count the number of times I have Googled a character's name to find out more about him or her. And best of all, Nate Heller "interacts" in some surprising ways with more real people than anyone could hope for. Even the least of this series, and I don't know which one that might have been, is good reading.

My reaction to the ending was "Where's the next book."

Huey was fun but there are so many great people in this book that picking only one is hard.

I was moved by Nate's interview with Huey Long's wife.
