Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update," before "Sarah Palin," Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told....

OK, so I am not a laugh out loud kind of person. It takes a lot to get me to do that. There were a few moments in the book that brought me to an out loud laugh, but I did chuckle a lot. For that alone it was worth listening to. Laughing, even chuckling, makes you live longer. So listen and live! Maybe it'll add a couple of days or months to your life.

  • 11-22-63: A Novel

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Poor JFK. That poor man has been murdered over and over again in the press, in the Warren Report, in books, articles, newspapers, etc. Each author has a different spin and different selling point. Stephen King is no different. Just when you thought no new spins on the same story/theory, Mr. King comes out with another. I'm glad for that. It was a good story, even if the content was familiar. I didn't think I'd like it, but I did. Mr. King has been a popular writer for a long time and with good reason. He can spin a good tale. If you have more than a day, listen. You'll find yourself wanting to put those earplugs in your ear to find out what happens next.

When she was 18 years old, Carolyn Jessop was coerced into an arranged marriage with a total stranger - a man 32 years her senior. Merril Jessop already had three wives. But arranged plural marriages were an integral part of Carolyn's heritage: She was born into and raised in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS), the radical offshoot of the Mormon Church.

This book was hard to hear but a compelling listen. I felt as though I was hearing both the story and feeing the pain at the same time. An unbelievable ordeal.

I read this book when I was much younger. As I near retirement I listened to this with the same enthusiasm as I did then. It still has the romantic charge without the graphic details of today's usual fare. Try it for the first time, the second time or fifth...you won't be sorry! What a story!

Barbara Demick's Nothing to Envy follows the lives of six North Koreans over fifteen years - a chaotic period that saw the death of Kim Il-sung and the unchallenged rise to power of his son, Kim Jong-il, and the devastation of a far-ranging famine that killed one-fifth of the population. Taking us into a landscape never before seen, Demick brings to life what it means to be an average Korean citizen, living under the most repressive totalitarian regime today.

Don't miss this book! Very interesting and sad. Hard to believe how a people can be so misdirected and denied basic human rights. Take a risk and listen to something that is out of your comfort zone. You won't be sorry. This book is informative and well written.
