No, this is a genre I am not interested in.
I chose this book on peer recommendations, but ....I'm not even going to download the second half. It's like listening to paint dry. DULL....Narrator is ok...not great. However, the story is a revised for of Hunger Games. Once was enough in this genre for me...
Could not finish this novel. The strange murder and fantasy sex theme was too extreme for me...and I'm not squeamish or a prude. I just found it boring...was not willing to invest any more of my energy to 'wait' for the plot to feel interesting. Must be me...
I'd never read this book, only watched the movie. The book is, of course, a classic and gripping. The performance by Ms. Spacek is wonderful. Her southern lilt is perfect to help set the tone for this novel. Outstanding!!
I put this book off for a few months after I bought it b/c of the narrators. They grated on my ears. I finally pushed past the sound and got involved with the story, but did as many reviewers said, READ more than I listened to Orphan Train.
Good story, amazing piece of history and I enjoyed the novel.
I laughed so hard I cried, then I cried at the poignancy of his stories, and smiled at the memories he shared. What a life...and a great book!! Well done, Mr. Crystal.
McGovern is an enjoyable actress as Lady Cora, but as a novel reader, she was difficult to understand. She seemed to be placing a slight English accent on the character...who was from Kansas...and it didn't enhance the reading, but rather made it so difficult to understand the book, I bought the Kindle version and read it w/out my Audible. For someone who loves the new Voice Ready books, this is should tell you how BAD the reading was.
LOVED the story and will seek out this author again.
First book I've read by C. Moore. When I'd finished A Dirty Job, I immediately bought Lamb and found it even better! Both books are great reads/listens. Fisher Stevens is an amazing reader.
Funny, different, thought provoking
Great voice inflections and changes for each character.
Brought back all the well known stories (gospels) from the Bible...homilies from Mass...and gave the perspective of how they might be said today. Explored the frustration of how the Son of God had to 'wing it' as he discovered and learned what his Father wanted from him during his life on Earth. Entertaining and thought provoking. Loved the book.
Rich characters that you cared about. The plot lines were believable and the threads between all the characters well done.
As the title states, I invested the hours listening to this wonderful story, but the ending was abrupt. Without giving too much away, I felt as if the author just ran out of steam and stopped typing....gave it a quick summary paragraph and sent it to be published. Disappointed.
Not very highly...because the audio was difficult to understand. The narrator was attempting to imitate the cockney Brit accents or deep Irish brogues and ended up making it almost impossible to clearly 'get' what she was saying at times.
See comments above. Less accent, more enunciation.
No....took me a few months. Not something that gripped you
Would have been only 3 stars, but it picked up the pace at the end. At least it gave the story a close with it's prologue.
