Somewhere in Northwest London stands Caldwell housing estate, relic of 70s urban planning. Five identical blocks, deliberately named: Hobbes, Smith, Bentham, Locke, and Russell. If you grew up there, the plan was to get out and get on, to something bigger, better. Thirty years later ex-Caldwell kids Leah, Natalie, Felix, and Nathan have all made it out, with varying degrees of succes - whatever that means....

    NONE

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    NO

    Any additional comments?

I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT WAS ABOUT. I FINISHED BOOK 1 AND HATED THE BOOK. I HAD READ "WHITE TEETH" BY ZADIE SMITH AND LOVED IT. THATS WHY I ORDERED THIS BOOK. BIG MISTAKE. MAYBE YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK AND NOT LISTEN TO.

Running with Scissors is the true story of a boy whose mother (a poet with delusions of being Anne Sexton) gave him away to be raised by her psychiatrist, a dead ringer for Santa and a lunatic in the bargain.

    Nothing!!!

What do you think your next listen will be?

    It hasn't!!!

    Any additional comments?

It reminds me of "1000 Little Pieces" and we know what happened with that book.

What did you love best about Light in August?

NOTHING. I AM A BIG READER IN FACT I AVERAGE A BOOK A DAY AS I AM RETIRED AND I FOUND THIS BOOK RATHER BORING. ALL OF THE CHARACTERS, BAR NONE WERE DISFUNTIONAL. I KEPT LISTENING HOPING IT WOULD GET BETTER, BUT IT DID NOT.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    NONE

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Will Patton?

IT WAS NOT HIS FAULT. I DON'T THINK ANY NARRATOR WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. I USALLY ENJOY MOST BOOKS ABOUT THE SOUTH.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    NO1! ONLY BORED ME

    Any additional comments?

THINK I SAID ENOUGH NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT THIS BOOK.

T.S. Eliot described The Moonstone as "the first and the greatest English detective novel". Suspicion falls on three Indian jugglers who have been seen in the neighbourhood.

Would you be willing to try another book from Wilkie Collins? Why or why not?

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

THE READER WAS NOT CONVINCING IN THE W0MEN'S PARTS AND NOT TOO GOOD AT VARIOUS VOICES FOR EACH CHARACTER.
